So, I was one of the lucky ones to get my hands on a NES classic edition at Christmas. It's pretty awesome, but when comparing it to my retropie setup, I prefer retropie for so many reasons.

One of the things I love about the NES classic is the controller it comes with (I also have an extension cable). It feels just like the original NES controller.

Is there any kind of cheap adapter I can use to connect it to my pi via USB? I found something on Amazon, but it was for 2 controllers to USB and not sure if it would work with pi (it was for PC and was also around $15 bucks). The cables are the same as wii, but I am unable to find a cheap wii/nes classic connector to USB adapter, which I would think would exist by now (but maybe not). If anyone has any clue about this, can you point me in the right direction?

These NES controllers (when they are no longer backordered) are only 10 bucks and are quality build, so it would be amazing to plug these up and use them with retropie.

@actnash correct me if I'm wrong (I don't own an NES Mini) can't the NES Mini controller connect to the controller port of a Wiimote?

      Currently Playing: Tetris (Gameboy)

@celly yes, it can. So really, if anyone knows where/how I can find an adapter from wii cable to USB (which would probably work) or NES mini controller to USB, that would be greatly appreciated.

I think I'm starting to realize that there probably hasn't been much use in the past for an adapter like this, as most people who use wii remotes would rather connect via Bluetooth to a computer, rather than use a wire from controller to USB. And the NES mini is so new and still hard to find/out of stock, so it probably just hasn't been developed yet. Just thought I would try posting here to see if anyone else has some ideas or knows where one could find such an adapter.

@actnash raphnet-tech sells an adaptor and boards for this. They work great. Or you can get a dolphin bar if you have a wiimote and go wireless.

This is the closest thing I've found to what I'm looking for, but I believe you have to download software (which I'm not sure would work or be avail with raspberry pi).

            https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0089O4EB0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486345972&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=wii+to+usb+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=31Vx55Eko6L&ref=plSrch

It would be really nice to find an adapter that will go to USB that is less complicated, and will be recognized when mapping controls in retropie. I may be asking for too much, but just thought it would be super cool to use official, cheap NES controllers, that work better than your typical nes controller knock off. And it would be way cheaper than trying to buy an original NES controller plus adapter.

@edmaul69 Sweet! You pointed me to the right place. I guess since these things aren't in high demand, around $20 is a reasonable price, considering that you are basically getting a legit NES controller for $30 total, when you add in the cost of the actual controller. I may just wait it out and see if I can find one cheaper in the near future. That would be the jackpot, to find an adapter for $5 and pay $10 for the controller. Guess I'll keep using my trusty buffalo SNES controller for now :)

@actnash i wouldnt ever buy that mayflash adapter you posted. After you boot your pi you have to unplug them and replug them in for the controllers to work at all. And either the bumpers or triggers dont work on the wii classic controllers. I forget which.

@edmaul69 Yeah, I was thinking I might run into issues with that. Thanks for your help.

@geneworld that is only for the nunchuck. Even if it were to work on the nes classic controller only two of the four buttons would work. But im pretty sure none of them will work
