My Snesberry Pi (Retropie + Snes casemod)
-
It all started when i couldn't get a NES Classic Mini and had to come up with something else to satisfy my urge to play some retro games . I know this project is one of many and far from unique, but i still wanted to show my take on this.
Bought a typical yellowed snes for a small price which was supposed to be non-functional. To my surprise it was only the power supply that didn't work. I still have the snes motherboard left after this project. Maybe i'll hunt for another broken snes and use the functional motherboard in there.
I still want to retrobrite/hydrogen peroxide gel this sucker. But since it's winter and there's no sun and warmth i'll just wait a couple of months.
My wish was to made it look as stock as possible. So i had to do some dremelling and use some bondo to remove the original ports and add my extension cables to the backpanel.
The finished backpanel after some sanding and spraypainting.
The back of the Snes with the new backpanel.
The guts of my snes. Here you can see a Raspberry Pi 3 which has a Controlblock on top of it. I've connected all the controls, led and power switch to the Controlblock. I made a custom plate for my reset switch in Autocad and 3d printed it, since i didn't want to dremel or remove the original switch from the snes motherboard. The new reset switch is a cherry mx switch.
Here's the piece of vintage crt hardware i eventually want to hook it up to, a Sony PVM 1454MQ. I'm still waiting for my supplies to arrive to hook my Raspberry up through a 240p RGB signal. I can't wait!

@PSXed Nice build! If you don't want to wait for summer to use some retrobright you can always use a UV-Light.
The most cost-effective way would be to rent one for over the weekend if you can find a suitable supplier.

@Rion I'm currently looking to rent a UV light somewhere. My girlfriend is a hairdresser so we have enough hydrogen peroxide gel at home. Having my snes back to the original color would be the cherry on the cake.. :P

Very nicely done. I love a tidy build like that, and the bondo to clean up the back panel looks great. What EmulationStation theme are you running?
-
@obsidianspider The theme is called NBBA using scraped images from screenscraper.fr which were scraped with universal xml scraper. :)
