I have 2 SD cards, one for Raspian and one for RetroPie. When I switch to RetroPie, it boots into terminal, saying it booted into /dev/root. How can I boot into EmulationStation consistently? (BTW, I already booted into ES once, setup by doing "Basic Installation, and installing optional packages)
    EDIT:
Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 2 B (Yes I did check)
Power Supply used: DC 5V 2A
RetroPie Version Used: 4.1 Raspberry Pi 2 .img file
Built From: .zip from RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: WiPi, Logitech Wireless Mouse (M325c), Dell Wired Keyboard (SK - 8115)
    Controller used: Keyboard
    Error messages received: None
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
Guide used: (Mention if you followed a guide)
File: (File with issue - with FULL path)
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable)
Attachment of config files: config.txt is too big to open, just crashes notepad
    How to replicate the problem:

    • Downolad RetroPie image (from zip)
    • Extract file
    • Format SD card
    • Use Win32IDskImager to write image to SD card
    • Boot into RetroPie
    • Go to RetroPie Setup
    • Do "Basic Installation"
    • Install all optional packages
    • Take out SD card to try and put ROMS on it
    • Discover that the only folder on the SD card is an "Overlays" folder
    • Check each .txt file to crash Notepad a trillion times
    • Find the actual way to do it
    • Boot into RetroPie again to try and create folders to put ROMS on
    • Boot into command line
    • Use basic commands (cd and dir) to try and find boot script)
    • Fail
    • Try putting ROMS on through network (\retropie)
    • Realize you can't even open the ROMS
    • Go to RetroPie forum
    • Provide this information
And I get 4 raspberries at startup

This is happening for me as well. I've tried two separate SD cards, one 64gb and one 8gb.

Pi Model or other hardware: B+
Power Supply used: Canakit 100-240V AC, 5V 2.5A
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website, retropie-4.1-rpi2_rpi3
        USB Devices connected: none.
        Controller used: USB Buffalo Controller
        Error messages received: none
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
        Guide used: http://lifehacker.com/how-to-turn-your-raspberry-pi-into-a-retro-game-console-498561192
File: (File with issue - with FULL path)
        Emulator: EmulationStation
        Attachment of config files:
        How to replicate the problem:

        1. Downloaded the image from Retropie
        2. Used ApplePi Baker to put the image on the SD Cards.
        3. Put the SD card in the pi, connected it to the tv, connected the controller, connected power.
        4. It boots, runs through the setup, reboots, shows the splash screen, and then lands on the command prompt.

I've used the prior version (3.x) before with no issues. Not sure why I'm running into this now?

@thehashrocket Pi Model B? With the raspberry Pi 2/3 image? that's the issue.

@thehashrocket Yip. Wrong image. You need 1/ zero image.

I found this on the docs page, "
How do I boot to the desktop or Kodi

                In retropie setup script>>Configuration / tools>>autostart

(1)Start EmulationStation at Boot: Boots into EmulationStation.
(2)Start Kodi at Boot: Boots into Kodi- if you exit Kodi you will be returned to EmulationStation.
(E)Manually Edit /opt/retropie/configs/autostart.sh: you can manually add other programs to start on boot.
(C)Boot to text console (autologin): Boots into the terminal.
(D)Boot to Desktop: If you have a desktop environment installed like LXDE this will boot into the desktop."
So, I can change it, the settings must have changed into the "c" option, so how can I change it?

                  @theoneandonly No because it's a Pi 2. The B+ is a Pi 1.

@theoneandonly Also, I think you are underpowering the board with those peripherals added. You really need 2.5A of current available to rule out PSU problems.

@theoneandonly Also, why are you going into the menus and installing packages and doing a basic install? Retropie just boots.

                          @theoneandonly Also,

Take out SD card to try and put ROMS on it

What are you doing here? It is no longer readable by windows as it is a Linux partition. If I were you, I would go back and start again, following the guide https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/ then read up on transferring roms correctly. The card never comes out of the Pi.

                            @theoneandonly

                            \retropie

It should be \\RETROPIEwith SAMBA shares enabled.

                              @theoneandonly

                              Install all optional packages

Do you really want every emulator?

Boot into RetroPie again to try and create folders to put ROMS on

Why? How? Just follow the guide. https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Transferring-Roms

@theoneandonly Here is what I did:

                                Download RetroPie image (from zip)

                                Extract file

                                Format SD card

Use Win32IDskImager to write image to SD card

                                Boot into RetroPie

                                Configure PS3 controller

                                Copy roms using WinSCP

                                Reboot Emulationstation

                                Play
