Age Of Empires 2, RPI 3
-
Simple version: how would I go about playing age of empires 2 on my Raspberry pi 3B?
Longer Version: I have a Raspberry Pi 3B, and I recently purchased the HD edition of AOE2 on steam. I thought, hey, wouldn't it be cool to play this on my raspberry pi? So I did some system requirement checkups, and the pi hits the minimum system requirements for the HD edition. I don't care if it's not the HD version, and I'm assuming it will run a lot better if so. But how exactly should I do this? In retropie? In raspbian? Should I use an emulator?
Any and all help appreciated, and thanks in advance! -
@Eater_Of_Cheese system specs for a natively played game vs the overhead of emulating a whole different computer are very different.
If you can get Windows 95 through dosbox (if that's the OS it runs on) then it might function but don't know performance wise if it would be playable
This game engine may actually be your best bet:

@herb_fargus Thanks!
How might I go about installing OpenAge? -
There's a video of Age of empires running on the Pi:
It looks to be unplayable, there is a discussion about OpenAge on reddit but they also say it's unlikely.

@denisuu That's on an RPi 2 and I'm assuming that going to an RPi 3 would be an increase, but not a ton of difference. I've been curious about AOE vanilla though.
Thoughts on resources running it on Raspbian vs Retropie?
