MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!
There's no need to use RetroPie to join the MAME ROW! You can play it on any platform you want.
Every Monday we create a topic at the "General Discussion and Gaming" forum section with the 3 random games to be voted. And on Wednesday we check the result.
The current week's game thread is just where there are more people interacting/talking about the game(s). Feel free to post your hi-score (or any content about the game) anytime you want on the previous "rounds" topics (link below).
These "rules" are constantly being improved!

OK, so I haven't followed the forums too much, so I'm kinda new to MAME ROW but it sounds pretty cool. So do we place votes by just replying on here?

The post isn't usually created at midnight, but I was awake, and it's technically Monday here, so…

@backstander Ah didn't seven see that link. Thanks!

@BGallagherLA If you find some time you can play and post hi-scores for previous rounds too.

Glad you did, Monday's my day off so I usually wait till the evening for the new games:))
Kinda wish i hadn't got in early though, they're all rather hard this week!

Quite a well-matched selection this week. I really like Side Pocket, especially the tune, although it might get a little annoying after a while!
But I don't think Side Pocket is a good choice for a High Score Challenge, it's too hit and miss (pun intended!)
I'm finding it tricky to choose between the other two - Triple Punch is similar to a lot of other games of that era, but it is good fun, and challenging.
Swimmer is also pretty good, once I mastered the diving under obstacles. However I have no idea how to escape the giant crab at the end of the level, and it soaks up all my lives every time.
So for playability, and suitability for a high score challenge, and because it's one of those games where you feel that dying is your own fault, and not totally unfair, this week my vote goes to Triple Punch!

@GtBFilms One of the things I like most on MAME ROW is your comments about the candidate games. The comments are always informative, but the fun part is that you sound like a talent show judge. :)
-
@meleu Thanks! (I think!)
I hope I am the nice talent show judge and not the pantomime villain one!
-
Purely from the point of view that it may encourage some competition, knowing full well I'll be having a go at two player pool when I can get my kids on, my vote had to go to triple punch this week. Fwiw I got more of an adrenaline rush from this game than many others I've played in a long while, so what with my rom fever running high, that's a good thing in my book!))
-
I remember playing side pocket at the local arcade many many years ago. But I agree, not the best game for a competition. Had to go with triple punch, which I never played but seems fun.
-
This week's winner is Triple Punch!
-
Nice, we got 8 votes! I didn't have time this week to try out any of the games so I didn't vote.
-
Nice! Never played this one, so will check it out tonight.
-
I literally laughed out loud when I saw that an ambulance comes out when you punch out an enemy to take them away.
-
I had a chance to play this evening and got 48150.
-
@meleu must have the reflexes of a cheetah. The jerky controls of this game take a lot of getting used to, and the randomly spawning fire is a killer. Literally! The best I've been able to do is 26,650.
-
@obsidianspider hehehe.
I've played always worried about closing two rectangles simultaneously (specially the big ones) and earn double points. ;-)
