Mayflash dolphinbar and AdvanceMAME 1.4
-
@Jander3456 I have a Wiimote/Dolphinbar one too, but for some reason, I can never get Area 51 to actually work. I mean the rom itself wont work not sure why. What is the filename of yours?
-
@Febbweiss Did not know that about Mad Dog and Johnny Rock on Dosbox. Thanks for the heads up!
-
@BGallagherLA I don't know the rom name. If you check the /dev/shm/runcommand.log file, what is the error ? For Area51, you need a CHD file. The only location where it works for me is the ~/.advmame/image folder. It didn't work when I placed it into the ~/Retropie/roms/mame-advmame folder or a sub folder...
-
@Febbweiss Hmm ok. Didn't know that about CHD file. So you place the CHD file in the image folder and the rom ZIP file in the advmame rom folder? Or does CHD file go in area51.zip, and the whole thing goes in image folder?
-
@BGallagherLA You need both : the CHD file in the image folder and the rom file in the usual folder as you said ;)
-
@Febbweiss Hmm. I tried placing the CHD file there, and practically everywhere else, and nothing seemed to work. I originally had Area 51 in my Arcade folder and set the default emulator for AdvMame 1.4, but I moved it to the AdvMame folder and tried putting it in the image folder, no dice. Will try to tweak with it later.
-
@BGallagherLA Your CHD must have the same name than your rom.
Here my settings :- /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-advmame/area51mx.zip
- /home/pi/.advance/image/area51mx/area51mx.chd
As you can see, the rom file is in the mame-advmame folder and the CHD is in a folder which as the CHD filename in the image folder.
I know I tried to put the rom file in the arcade folder but it didn't work. I don't remember if it was before or after putting the CHD at the right place....
Other subject : anybody to help me with my advancemame 3 problem ? Advmame should be compatible with the same romset than the Advmame 1.4 but it doesn't work...
I have the following issue :- c74.bin (NOT FOUND) NO GOOD DUMP KNOWN
If I add namcoc74 bios, I have the following : - c74.bin NO GOOD DUMP KNOWN
An idea of what to do ?
-
Well I don't get it then. I had just the regular area51.zip and that didn't work with those settings, so I downloaded the Area51mx zip and chd, put those in the right places (with the CHD in a folder named after the rom... and still no buena. Oh well.
-
@BGallagherLA OK, 3 points :
- Are you sure you have the right romset ? Advmame 1.4 uses the 0.106
- Do you use the right advmame version according to your version ? Follow the guide : https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/
- Can you check your advmame configuration (in the /home/pi/.advance folder) ? Particularing the *_dir settings pointing to the right location
Have you check the /dev/shm/runcommand.log file ? you can find in it the error cause...
-
@Febbweiss Great tips. I need to try this myself, cause I've never been able to get mine to work with that game either.
-
I've seen other threads about it, but no definitive answer really. Can this technique work with NES emulators ?
-
@Febbweiss I'm pretty sure it's 0.106, and I know it's set to AdvMame 1.4. Will check the others tomorrow night.
-
@fdrslegs As of now, this light gun setup only works in AdvMame. Can't get it to work on NES, SMS or SNES quite yet.
-
I have the dolphin bar interacting with advmame, but the cursor is all over the place, whizzing to the sides all the time. Someone who has got it working well, please could you post your advmame.rc file?
-
@PiDad I never had this happen with my setup. I just have a Wiimote (with a cheap plastic gun mount) that is paired to the Pi through Bluetooth, and the DolphinBar plugged into one of my USB ports. Are you using the AdvMame 1.4 emulator? While there are some games i just cant get to work (probably because of wrong romeset, or other issues), the games that worked, worked right away, with no calibration/configuration needed.
-
@PiDad It happens sometimes. I think it's due to the switch on sequence... In this case, I reboot my bartop and switch on the wiimote and after that, I launch the game.
-
It happens sometimes.
I've noticed that this behavior is highly affected by how close you stand to the sensor. I find that I have to stand 6-8 feet away before it behaves reliably. Using the Wiimotes with an actual Wii was always the same way, as it was designed to work best from the sofa. If this is the case here, an alternative is to stand as close as you want and place the sensor further beyond your bartop.
-
@mediamogul You're right. It happens when I'm working on my bartop, so very close... Not when I play, so away from it...
-
I also have a set of AimTrak guns and they work in a similar way. I have to stand at least 4-6 feet away using them on my cabinet.
-
Thanks all, will try, the machine is in a busy room so is difficult to stand too far away!
Was it just plug and play for you all?
For myself, not sure why, but I did have even worse performance from the wiimote (reversed axes etc), but much improved when I tweaked the advmame.rc file. That's why I was asking, I wonder if someone could share theirs.
Many Thanks!
