Idea for experimental: Install Arbitrary ES-branch
-
@BuZz Really? I understand how much work you put into this stuff. Most regulars do. It was a joke. Don't stress Jools. If you need help, just ask.
-
@AlexMurphy said in Idea for experimental: Install Arbitrary ES-branch:
@Zigurana BuZz just likes things done a certain way. His way. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It's just the way he likes it.
That's not true - I take on board a lot of ideas/suggestions. But I think I have the right to say no to something if I don't like it.
-
@BuZz Of course you do. I was just being flippant. Don't cry.
-
@Zigurana I can totally understand where @BuZz is coming from and it makes sense. I don't think that we need to have a script or menu out there that is part of the standard Retropie that everyone else will use. We need to remember that there are only a select few of us who enjoy playing around with all the different aspects of the system, there are a whole lot more people who like to use it because it can be very easy to setup and just play!
I think we can still create a script or a menu or something for those who are interested in testing and development. There is an entire thread devoted to this on the forum! Once again I have to hold my head down a bit and bow to those of you who know how to code as I don't have those skills, but i do believe a script can be created, similar to what buzz has provided that can be manually installed by the users. If you write a script as an .sh file, you can simply copy it into
/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/supplementary
. This will permanently place that script into your experimental packages menu. No one else on the planet will be affected by this, but your build. BuZz and others won't have to maintain it either, but you, and I and pjft and jdrassa and anyone else who would want to install it could do so. Then we could have the ability to switch between builds on our machines. As others are interested in testing we could offer the script to them as well. @buZz, I hope that doing something like this to our own builds, and sharing the knowledge would be ok by you? and @Zigurana I hope something like this might be an acceptable solution for what you are trying to accomplish? just some thoughts for consideration. -
@TMNTturtlguy This is @BuZz right now...
He needs to learn to delegate and trust other people...
-
@AlexMurphy, I had hoped it was just my imagination, but you're really beginning to slip back into columboscoat all too regularly. You know your stuff and you're a real asset around here when you're being helpful, but posts like that are simply disrespectful. You know where this is leading.
-
@mediamogul Ah man! I was only having a joke. If I'm not welcome just let me know. If I do stay I will try my best to not be rude to admins / say anything I find funny. Tell BuZz I'm sorry. XoX
-
And I post this again, I usually post this when @BuZz speaks of his annoyance with being the only maintainer of Retropie.
-
@lilbud Hahaha! Man. you know I love this community and I think everyone who participates are worth their weight in gold. You could tell I was just joking, right?
-
@AlexMurphy Yeah, but I share sentiments with @BuZz. It is sad that he is one of the only people maintaining the repo.
-
@lilbud I think that was the point i was making. No one should be indispensable from any project unless it is a one man show. Other people can be trusted to do some of the stuff BuZz hates. He just needs to ask / trust them.
-
@AlexMurphy No-one is crying (maybe with despair). You are irritating me though slightly. I appreciate your contributions, but not too much - be nice. Don't get personal. Thanks.
-
@AlexMurphy which is where I come in. I'm on the phone with him almost daily.
Fact is nobody knows the code base well enough or has come forward with any long term contributions to the code base. I more or less maintain the docs, a few other swell gents have enhanced ES a bit. but as far as core retropie setup thats 99% jools (not to mention the backend of the website, the binaries, the image releases, and all of the legal rubbish)
It's amazing he's not rocking back and forth in a corner.
special thanks to @mediamogul and @dankcushions for their moderation on the forum as it tends to be one of the more stressful parts of retropie that jools and I are very grateful we don't have to handle on our own.

@herb_fargus I'm not trying to make any enemies here. I know how much you all do around here. I'm not intentionally going out of my way to wind people up. I may come across as a bit abrasive from time to time or people may mistake my shite jokes for rudeness but it is not meant maliciously towards anyone. If I was rude, I apologise.
-
@herb_fargus Thanks. Second you on the forum help comments. I think @mediamogul and others help with my sanity. I hate writing documentation, and you may do too now, but couldn't do RetroPie without you. The legal stuff has been a PITA, but having others to advise and talk with has been a godsend. Cheers.
-
@BuZz Any word on the whole copyright fiasco?
-
@BuZz If I was rude or came across as a jackass I am sorry. I genuinely mean that. I don't mean to get people off side. I'm just clumsy sometimes and forget to turn my filter on. I don't even know a tenth of what you do for us and the bits I get i really appreciate. Thanks.
-
@AlexMurphy thanks and NP. Cheers.

@lilbud Our attorney has filed for a US trademark. The old one was supposedly cancelled by former owner, but they filed it wrong afaik. With our new application this has been addressed/referenced. Will do a blog post when things are properly sorted.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
