As far as a fix for all of this. At one point when I needed an extra controller to use along with a couple xbox360 controllers I configured a Wii Classic Controller with MoltenGamePad (Method 2 in the link mentioned in the OP.) with no problems.

@monkeypie it worked with mayflash dolphin bar
I'm now having issues with the shortcuts like start + select inside the games for going back to the menu, but the analog works great

@Charononus nice to know that. I tried that and didn't work. Maybe I've done something wrong.
But mayflash dolphin bar worked. Really great.

@edmaul69 thx a lot. I broght it, ir worked great the analogs and everything inside the game, except for the shortcuts of emu station / retroarch
Now I'm having trouble to make it work shortcut like start + select
            Any idea?
Mayflash dolphin bar is in mode 3, I tried other modes but everything was the same or worse.

@WildDarkness with the new emulationstation, when you configure the controller, at the end it wants you to press hotkey. You need to choose select as the hotkey. I think it was a bad idea to add this option as i am sure several people who say the select + start doesnt work, is because of this option and not realizing you need to press the select button so your controls match all of the official documentation.

Was that just using BT? I don't want to spend money on adapters like the Mayflash dolphin bar. I'm thinking about buying an 8bitdo controller if I can get this to work.

@monkeypie the wii controllers arent 100% standard bluetooth so you cant just hook it up and immedietly sync it to bluetooth like you would with an 8bitdo. The dolphin bar is only for wii controllers.

What do you mean? I followed the guide and was able to automatically sync during startup, RP3 BT. The only thing that doesn't work are the analog sticks.

@monkeypie i havent found an easy way to get it to work 100% without a lot of work or using something like the dolphin bar.

@edmaul69 I tried adding the home button in this, which didn't work
I'll try adding the select button
                        Thanks again

With MoltenGamePad? Yeah, I just got MoltenGamePad from git and followed the directions and set up the wiimote with the pi's internal bluetooth. I forget what pairing option it needed but pretty sure it was in the directions. This was just shortly after 4.2 was released. It worked as easy as can be.

The only problem I had with it is that I had to uninstall moltengamepad when I eventually hooked up a Wii U Pro controller as it didn't play nice with it.

I know for my Wii U controller, I couldn't get RetroArch hotkey shortcuts to work as I wanted until I went into the config file and manually added the start button as the "exit" button. But it took me awhile at first to understand how the hotkeys worked (didn't know what hotkey option meant when I set up the controller in emulation station because it didn't do that in my Reys image).
