      You can change the gamepad buttons from the RetroArch menu for a specific emulator or game: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#core-input-remapping

      @brucetablett said in Raspberry Pi 4B, Retro pie registering D-PAD as analogue stick:

      do you know any gamepads that works fine? Should I buy a 8bitdo-controller perhaps and not some 20dollar knockoff?

      I have a Logitech F710 that works well. Other people seem to like the 8bitdo controllers but I've not used one myself; look for one with a 2.4gHz wireless dongle, as the built-in Bluetooth tends to be less-than-stellar, I have heard.

      @dankcushions Thank you.

      I found the solution:
      RA changed recently the way the "Digital to Analog" operates.

      switch ATD mode to "Left Analog (Forced)", as in input_player1_analog_dpad_mode = "3".

      That works!

      @barbudreadmon said in Analog stick bind recently stopped working in MAME:

      @slimbrick there were some changes with that analog-to-digital feature last month, if you recently updated retroarch maybe you'll want to read https://www.libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-1-9-6-released/

      Thanks! This will certainly help and the timing correlates very well with when I started having problems.

      @komarin By "pro controller", do you mean the switch pro controller ? If so, you might be interested in reading https://docs.google.com/document/d/10KXz0gD1Lo-7UkDyezSnyrm1vILn-fMSilwPE_kpOik/mobilebasic

      Just to give a conclusion to the thread, I tried a whole bunch of stuff. I tried jscal, evdev-joystick, updating the kernel, downloading some different files... but ultimately, this is what worked:

      https://retropie.org.uk/forum/post/227102

      I installed hid-nintendo as described in the post and everything just worked like it was supposed to after rebooting the machine. It makes you reconfigure the controller, but after that, it just works.

      @joesnow81 there are allready dozens of "recommend a controller" threads here.
      Always in the Charts are those from 8BitDo, the Dualshock3, X360 and WiiU Controllers. Wired or BT: they all do their job well.

      I solved this. I changed the analogue control settings at the bottom of the list to match the buttons (not the other way round). This game now works with two analogue sticks.

      Simple comment. I had the same issue but my lowerBound had to be fix to value 490. It's important to check the value when your stick go back in place. My left stick showed a value of 491 when It came back from left to center. Now, Everything's working fine

      I suggest to use joy.cpl to find It.

      Yeah I meant threaded video. I've had the same RetroPie build from version 4.4, its hard to remember all the changes and configurations I've made. I'll try to share once I think of them.
      Do you have a fan installed? The temp_soft_limit is 60 by default and will throttle the cpu to 1.2ghz
      I increased the soft_limit to 70 and it barely reaches 63 during emulation.

      Have you updated retroarch, raspbian, and your cores, since you installed the image?
      the firmware, I should search to find out for sure, I think it is updated when you go to retropie config >> configure >> raspbian >> update raspbian(next to install pixel desktop)
      It could be a psx_bios, some have higher compatibility, I have quite a few in my folder actually, but I think scph_101 is the highest compatibility and it will be chosen over the others, not to be confused with scph_1001.

      As I say that Gran Turismo refuses to work.
      I don't know why, but I did update the core since I last played it.

      It might be worthwhile to uninstall and reinstall the Xpad driver. After my last update, I had to do that inorder to get my 8Bitdo controllers to fully function again.

      @tr3v0r If you're just a beginner, then I suggest you use RGUI and the auto-configuration produced for RetroArch and don't edit any files.
      Use the 'Core input remapping' (see docs) to change the RetroPad controls.

      @qnsht Assuming you have mapped correctly your controller, open the RetroArch RGUI while in game, then change your gamepad type to analog - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#analog-controller-type.

      @markwkidd said in Need Help Configuring D-Pad to act as Analog Stick in Arcade Games:

      This will be easier to accomplish with the new remapping system in RetroArch 1.7.2 -- probably RetroPie 4.5 though. Cold comfort today I know.

      how would it work with this specific example? i don't know what the new retroarch stuff does, yet, so this will be an interesting example.

      i'm thinking for retropie's initial binding, we give the users each abstracted retropad button, and they press the associated physical button they want to use for that, which seems logical so far. how would retroarch 1.7.2 change this approach?

      @bland328

      Actually, in both cases you'd need an external tool. I use xboxdrv, as outlined in the guide I linked to above. Having analog movement available on the stick comes in handy for everything from 'Marble Madness' to 'Spy Hunter'. It's especially nice in 'Centipede', where you're normally all over the place much too quickly with digital controls.

      @peterd0404 said in 8bitdo SF Pro - up/down left/right are not the same analog joystick:

      I assume I have to modify emulators settings for the analog sticks. Are there instructions to modify that?

      Check the emulator page in the docs to see more details about input configuration. There are 2 kinds of emulators present in:

      Libretro based emulators - they're run from RetroArch and they all benefit from the same input configuration. You can easily recognize them by their name (lr-...). To configure them, just press Select + X while in-game and then you'll get the configuration menu for RetroArch where you can change your input settings and then save it.
      I'd suggest trying to set your gamepad with the Analog option - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#analog-controller-type

      Non-libretro emulators (like advmame), which have their own input configuration. RetroPie will try to pre-configure them, based on your input mapping from the Emulationstation configuration dialog, but some of them might require tweaking.

      To solve this problem You can specify these settings for each controller in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/<gamepad's name>.cfg:

      input_left_axis = "-0" input_right_axis = "+0" input_up_axis = "-1" input_down_axis = "+1"
