Sega Genesis Flashback

Has anyone else seen the AtGames Sega Genesis Flashback?
I guess it comes pre-loaded with 85 Genesis and Game Gear games, includes a cartridge port that supports "almost all" of the original SEGA Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges and with a September release. Also it output in 720p HDMI with scan line filtering. It comes with two Genesis-style 2.4ghz wireless controllers plus the console has two ports for those original classic wired controllers. From the video it looks like it has similar Save States mechanics like the NES Classic Edition.
Maybe someone on here can put a Raspberry Pi in this thing (...ahem @obsidianspider haha just kidding)!

@backstander Yes seems so that the MINI NES and it's GUI seems to be a kind of "feasibility analysis" of this introduced console.
Looks nice anyway :) -
@backstander i will be getting one of these! I have modded an atari flashback, a coleco flashback, and like 8 intellivision flashbacks. It will be a nice addition.
-
SUBZero: FORWARD, DOWN, FORWARD, PUNCH - Fatality move ;)
So MK 1-3 are loaded on this console....
Maybe you have to edit:blood=0 to blood=1
to enjoy 720p entertainment.
There are tons of differences esp. in the MK cartridge -
The previous AtGames Genesis consoles have been notorious for their extremely poor quality, but this one looks like they may finally be trying to make a good product. The build quality looks to be improved and they're finally using HDMI and 2.4Ghz for the wireless controllers instead of infrared. The list of vintage games also seems improved, but the number of titles is still being propped up with that same bizarre selection of newly developed, low-rent homebrew games. However, it's hard to argue against adding more games, no matter the quality. One thing I've always appreciated in their consoles is the ability to play original cartridges, which I have many of. I'll wait to read some reviews, but I might pick this one up.

@mediamogul
I would also like to wait for more hands on reviews to make sure the build quality is better this time around. Hopefully they got it right this time ;-) -
Yeah I've heard they were rubbish but haven't used then myself. I'll stick with the pi and since Sega just released more games through android I'll be busy with that

"SEGA Forever", right? I hope those types of legitimate services really take off. Is there a controller you favor, or do you plan on roughing it with touch screen controls?
-
@mediamogul I've just been roughing it to humour it, one day I may get a Bluetooth controller.
After reading this though it made me have less respect for Sega:
I still respect them more than Nintendo though.
-
@mediamogul Sega Forever probably won't take off.
They are using Unity, it allows them to Port to multiple systems, but the ports are struggling to hit 40 fps

That's a very interesting article. I was wondering why the recent RetroArch Netplay matchmaking features became a priority so quickly and there's the reason. We got a really great feature out of the mess though. I'm fighting the urge to go off on a rant about how additionally abusive all middle to large-sized companies have become to every part of society within the past fifteen to twenty years, but sufficed to say, this whole thing doesn't surprise me, yet it does disappoint.
-
I want one that looks like a MegaDrive II
(it's what I grew up with, and I think the Genesis looks ugly)
It would also be cool if the controllers were made in such a way that you could easily use them on other things too, like with usb.
-
@backstander I actually think my Genesis USB hub has a nicer case, even if I did have to massage it a bit.
-
@lilbud said in Sega Genesis Flashback:

The ads are super intrusive.
-
-
@backstander but for only two dollars you can have an ad free experience that still is sub par compared to RetroArch. What a deal!
-
but for only two dollars
Oh, so it's 2 dollars! I thought my friend said it was 10 dollars haha. Now this is more reasonable!
Either way, RetroPie is better! ;-) -
The more I read about SEGA Forever makes me think about any given episode of 'Silicon Valley'. Choosing to package their games with an inappropriate middleware component that better serves a corporate agenda than it's intended purpose is frustratingly hilarious. These guys got in their own way and I'm sure it'll hurt sales.

"IN STORES SEPTEMBER, 2017" the SNES mini will be in the stores in September too. Soon we're going to have the Second 16Bit war LOL.
