I can't change Emulator?
-
@StuMcBill This is a common problem. The issue is that you are trying to launch a rom that is not compatible with your emulator of choice. I think it works with lr-mame2003 and the 0.78 romset like you said. Looks like you are having trouble selecting emulators? have a read of this: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/ and compare it against what you did.

@rbaker Thanks for the quick reply.
I have tried to change emulators via the runcommand menu, however, it doesn't seem to do anything.
Should I try and follow this: runcommand-onstart and runcommand-onend scripts?
Thanks.

@StuMcBill When you say it doesn't do anything, are you referring to the launch of a rom? After you select the emulator you want, you have to then select ok and it will alter.
-
@rbaker I select lr-mame2003, then go to launch and it goes back to the emulationstation screen. When I try and launch the rom again, it shows that lr-fbalpha is still selected?
-
@StuMcBill Have you selected "ok" after choosing the emulator? It will then change. Are you changing the deafault emulator? What is the location of your rom? Put it in the Arcade folder.
-
@rbaker Yeah, I have selected OK, and even when it goes back to the menu, it still shows lr-fbalpha as the emulator for ROM.
I'm not trying to change the default.
The default is lr-mame2003
Emulator for ROM is lr-fbalphaWhen I select lr-mame2003 in the Emulator for ROM folder, it doesn't change.
The rom is in the Arcade folder already.

I just noticed a message appear and disappear when I press OK, there is a command line message appears at the bottom couldn't open temporary file /opt/retropie/configs/all/<bunch of letters> permission denied?
I am running Roms from a USB stick, could that have anything to do with it?

don't think so as the, but the permissions thing is maybe since you updated and it moved files about. you could reset the permissions via commandline. something like
sudo chmod -R 755 /opt/retropie/configs/all

Ok, I am not sure what to suggest next because I use the Arcade folder and change per rom emulator choices often and with no issue using the run command. Sounds like that permissions error is preventing the change from being retained for some reason.

@dankcushions Ran that command, rebooted and still same thing?!
Any other ideas?
Thanks for all the help so far!
-
Disabled USB Rom service - still no go.
Would it be worth me starting over?
Its doing the same with every emulator, not just arcade!?
-
@StuMcBill If you have not invested hours in the setup, I would re-image.
-
@rbaker I have spent a little while, but nothing I couldn't recreate in a couple of hours.
I'll maybe leave it for a while and see if anyone has any ideas?

@StuMcBill Have a read of this thread:

That worked!!! Thanks!
