I hope for the first teardown. I think the plattform of the NES and SNES mini are the same. Afaik the NES mini was a quadcore CPU ARMv7 Allwinner with 256MB of RAM ;)

@CodeDrawer I really don't think Nintendo will make an N64-mini, at least not for a while (like 4-5 years). I mean, look at all of the problems N64 emulation has even on beefy PC's. I know Nintendo could make an emulator far better than any community on the internet (since Nintendo would have the full source code for the console and it's first party games), but it still seems unlikely to me.

On a related note, couldn't some "dedicated fans" be able to extract the roms and emulator from an N64-mini and make it a self-sufficient system on PC? Or is that impossible?

@cafarellidigital The roms, probably. The emulator, no.

The SNES Mini will be hacked in a months time.

            SNES MINI? COUNT ME IN!

I am a big SNES fan. Most of my games on my Pi are SNES Games. Mostly SMW Hacks.

@cafarellidigital That's what I'm thinking. That emulator would be ripped apart. N64 mini would be a huge score for the emulation community.

@hooperre Well, if the emulator is indeed ripped, it would have to be ported to PC and support all of the plugins and games needed.

                        Who wants a ineedtomakemoney mini?
Typical Nintendo instead of thinking up something competitive and innovative they chew through the old stuff over and over again. For all I know that stuff is so old they should offer it free for download.

We got RPis with RetroPie that is the best mini device. No need for a reduced version with a different shell.

Nostalgia sells bro. Why wouldn't they do it? It's a nice tidy package, reasonable price, and is a legal why to buy old classic games.

Already got mine on pre-order, as I'm not convinced they will produce it for the long run like last time. Starfox 2 is a very cool bonus as well. These mini consoles pre-laoded with games are a great idea. I'd love Sony to follow suit and do a mini ps1 or something. It's great for the consumer and stands to make the company alot of money!

@FlyingTomahawk Agreed. I threw a pi inside an sfc to satisfy my nostalgia, and I can play thousands of other games from other systems for free. There is no reason for me to ever get an snes mini. This is for the casual gamer and not for tinkerers like us. I'm glad this will take away sales from scumbags selling retropie preloaded pi's, though.

@lilbud I would love to have one, I am saving 5 USD / 100 MXN per week to get it but since Gamela (the ones who imports Nintendo products to Mexico) raises the price a lot (and I mean a lot) I do not know if I may able to get it we, gamers in México call it the Nintendo tax and an example of the Nintendo tax is the Swic since it costs 10,000 MXN, arround 500 USD, its pro controller wich costs 2,400 MXN 120 USD and the NES classic edition wich had a cost of 2,00 MXN, 100 USD

So, if I can not afford a SNES Classic Edition at least I am happy with a dump of the ROM of the finished official release of Star fox 2 for my Raspberry Pi

This whole "release too few to keep the price up" crap is not very motivating.
The price is not reasonable at all and you have 1 million customers who pre-order but you only produce 10% of it so that people fight over it or others buying it for $80 only to sell for $150 later on ebay.
For less then $80 i can get a RPi3 with case and all what I need. And not only play 21 games but more than 1000 if I want.

The only thing that interest me about that SNES mini is the UI. How will it look like and can it be converted to ES.

@FlyingTomahawk Yeah I'm not disputing Pi vs Nintendo classic consoles at all. Pi is clearly superior. But what Nintendo is doing is a good way to support the purchase of older games while being delivered on an easy to use platform. Especially from a company notoriously against emulation, this is a good way to support a more legal way of obtaining older games (bar the Nintendo E-shop).

I do agree with the artificial scarcity part. That's some BS from Nintendo's end and is one of those 'just why' decisions they keep making. Clearly there is a large demand for them so why they wouldn't pump them out and make lots of money and satisfy their consumers is beyond me. The market they created to get your hands on a NES mini was terrible.

It's shit what happened to the NES mini, and we can only hope they continue to produce the SNES mini past December this time around.

And yes, can't wait to see the ES theme version of SNES mini come out of this :)
