Some arcade buttons and joystick unknown retropie

Hi everybody,

I have a big issue on Retropie since yesterday. Actually I've just finish to build my home arcade cabinet.
I have a Raspberry pi drive 3 B connected to a Western digital Pi drive HHD which are feeded 5V. All the joysticks and arcade buttons of my control panel are well connected to the gpio and the ground daisy chanel of each players (2) is connected on the grounds Gpio pins. All is ok !
I have download the retropie 200gb image of MadlittlePixel on arcade punks to put it on my raspberry.
I have easily set up my blutetooth keyboard on my raspberry but when i try to set up my arcade controllers it is the beginning of problems.
Nothing works except 4 buttons.

I've launched a jstest for the 1st player:

jstest /dev/input/js0

and i got this:

Axes: 0: 0 1: 0 Buttons: 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:on 6:off 7:off

When i try the joystick left and right axis works
Up and down stay to zero (first issue)

Buttons 2 and 3 work and become "on".

Button 5 is everytime on ????????? (second issue)
Other buttons don't work (third issue)
And when i press "START button" my emulation system reboot... (fourth issue)

Please...

Help...

@loujez You won't like this answer, but your first problem is the premade image you are using. More than likely the image that Madlittlepixel has provided has config files that are either overriding or at conflict with your controls. You have 2 options,

contact madlittlepixel for support
start with a clean image from the official download section of this site

I am currently building a bartop and using a mixture of buttons and a easygit usb encoder that is recognized as a dragonrise. I had issues with my current setup not creating the retroarch joystick auto config file. I had to manually create the config file and the hot buttons. I can help you with this, but not if you are running a pre-made image not supported by the forum.

Lastly, madlittlepixel does great work, has great info and great videos. Reach out to him for support if you prefer.

I have not thought to this. Effectively it seems very logic.

Ok so i'm going to save all the roms and media of this build (that i had completed and improved during 1 week... i cry) and build a new one. That is my only option today and thank you so much for everything.

By the way why pre-made image are not supported by the forum ?

Assuming that no illegal content is included, too much guess work is involved in determining what has been changed by the person who set it up.

@TMNTturtlguy Just to let you know that i have found what was the issue.
Actually the GPIO's pins of my raspberry seem to be defective. I have tried an image of retropie built by one of my mate and the issue was still here. I have also tried my arcade controlers with recalbox and the same buttons didn't work. I'm going to operate the warrenty of the product and this will be the end of all my troubles.
I did not have luck this time. Next will be the good one :)

@loujez Thanks for the update, hopefully that will fix things. Another question/suggestion. Is there a reason you want to connect everything to the GPIO pins? Have you considered getting a USB encoder? They work really well and are very easy to set up.

@TMNTturtlguy Effectively i have thought about it and it is a good idea, but i have already one usb port used by my keyboard, another one by my hard disk, and i would like to keep 2 usb ports free. It would let me to eventually connect other devices such as bluetooth guns (to play "time crisis" for instance) or to add 2 more arcade joystick for 4 players game and so on. I could use a usb HUB to do all theses things but i dont want to add too many intermediate electronic composants to the chanel. Either way if it had been the only solution, i will have chosen this method :)

And if someone who reads this topics has the same issues that i have encountered, i'm hoping he will follow your advice. That's the easiest way too do. I think. ^^
