MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!
Notes:
-
We usually post hi-scores screenshots after playing with only one credit. If you used more than one credit, please mention it on your post.
-
There's no need to use RetroPie to join the MAME ROW! You can play it on any platform you want.
Every Monday we create a topic at the "General Discussion and Gaming > MAME Random Of the Week" forum section with the 3 random games to be voted. And on Wednesday we check the result.
These "rules" are constantly being improved!

any cave shooter is an instant lock for me :) it might play better in FBA - will have to check.
-
@dankcushions I tried Guwange in MAME 2003 and it ran fine (raspi3). Cool game with that defense system. Will try the others soon.
-
Should Guwange be the one, you'll have to translate the scores :)

Well, I ended up voting for Chopper. :)
It's simple and have the aesthetics that pleases me (NEStalgia). -
Mars is fun but my version seems to have freeplay/never ending lives!
Chopper I it is
-
-
It's retro, it goes pew pew and has little multi-coloured dots for stars. And the icing on the cake? The right stick controls direction of fire!
No issues with never ending lives here:(My vote goes for Mars, Chopper was ok, and the other one just too weird for me:)

it goes pew pew
I have to agree. This is an important factor to take into consideration for this kind of decision! :-)
In fact, that's why I voted for Chopper I. I liked the Gunwange, but it lacks the pew pew factor. I know that Mars has more pew pew than Chopper, but I got confused by the controls.
Now I have a cool answer for the question "why the hell do you like atari 2600 games?"
My answer: "because of the pew pew factor".
(Damn! Now I'm looking for an excuse to keep repeating "pew pew factor"!)

surely not for the graphics ;-)
... I even bought a real one on ebay.. it has even more pew pew with those old joysticks and paddles.

If you want to keep them working fine never play Track & Field (aka atari joystick breaker) on the original hardware.

Track & Field (aka atari joystick breaker)
No intention at all ! I remember well when the game came out; arcade first then at home.
With the "highly ergonomic" console and computer joysticks of that time they were also "hand breakers" :-D -
After ten votes there is a tie for the winner! If you haven't voted yet, please do so! I will check again at 10 Eastern.
-
Go team Pew Pew!!!
-
With what I'm pretty sure is a record for number of votes, we're still at a tie, so I'll throw it to the group: What do you want to do?
-
@BuZz you are the boss. Can you give the casting vote and break this tie?
-
Play both of them ? ;-)
-
@obsidianspider my suggestion: the Gunwange is the odd, the Chopper I is the even. Get a random.org number, if it's an odd number, then we play Gunwange; if it's an even number, then we play Chopper I.
What do you guys think?
-
Chopper I it is!
