[Theme Changes] Attention Theme Makers: Upcoming Game Collections in ES
-
@mediamogul Thanks! You detect correctly sir! Love me some old school! And the tooth is one of my best sellers.
-
I'm a big fan of that original rubber band cartoon character style myself and have a pretty extensive collection of animation from that time. My two favorite creative forces are Ub Iwerks and anything out of the Fleischer animation studio. About fifteen years ago, I was lucky enough to work on animating a television commercial that parodied the "Let's all go to the lobby" characters and to this day it's still one of the most fun projects I've ever been involved with.
-
That's rad! Just gave me an idea too, wouldn't a version of that specific animation, but done in pixel art, make one hell of a Retropie startup screen? Not that i'm volunteering, haha.
-
It would indeed. I'm always keen to avoid copyright and trademark issues, but imagine Pac-Man, Mario and a few other notable characters stylized in a merger of 16-bit pixel art and that classic rubber band style, confidently high-stepping in line to the jaunty tune.
"Let's all go to the lobby and play ourselves some games"
-
@mediamogul I literally cannot upvote that idea enough

Fully agree that inkscape lacks features and is quite unstable
It does lack many features, chief among them would be a quick startup time.
The 4 stages of opening Inkscape, the 1st picture is when you click the icon.

@lilbud lol!
I saw Serif also does promos from time to time. We may get Affinity Designer at a even lower price. I'm downloading the trial right now. -
@udb23 I really have no need for a vector software, I just have Inkscape because its free and I hate Adobe Illustrator.
Also, @mediamogul,
Hanna-Barbara > Fleischer
-
@capeman Ended up directly buying it :-)
Will start playing with it over the next WE.
thanks again. -
Hanna-Barbara > Fleischer
Ha! While I'll always personally prefer Fleischer's more classic character design and Art Deco background style, there's no arguing that Hanna-Barbara was more prolific in the long run. Their complete stable of characters, while lesser known, rivaled that of Warner Bros or even Disney. Cartoon Network's re-imagining of the characters in the early 2000s is one of the gutsiest and most exciting resurrections of aging intellectual properties that I've ever seen. My particular favorite was 'Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law'.

Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law
My favorite Hanna-Barbara cartoon is Tom and Jerry, hands down the funniest of them all.
-
An excellent choice for classic HB. Unfortunately their various resurrections in more recent years have been hit or miss due to a constant effort to cater to younger, more sensitive modern audiences. Thank God for the originals though.
-
@mediamogul Tom and Jerry could never exist today in it's original form.
-
@lilbud I miss the old days of ultra violent cartoons. I sat around watching looney tunes all the time as a young child and I'm not running around shooting people point blank with double barrel shotguns. Sigh, better times.
-
@capeman sure. But I love hearing you ever time you explain away the amount of anvils, TNT and ACME gizmos you store in your garage.
-
@pjft A man's gotta have hobbies.
-
-
@pjft Has any further progress been made on the custom-collections bit?
-
@udb23 thanks! I'll try it out on Tuesday when I have access to my dev pi.
Looks great :)
-
@udb23 Logo looks great! Did you end up giving Affinity a whirl?
