Project Brutality (Zdoom) Works??
-
@retrofreak89 ok so you need to stick all of the .pk3 and .wad files in your /roms/ports/doom/ folder. this example is just for doom 2. this is in my emulators.cfg file i created. you need to replace the 2 spaces in the "Project Brutality 2.03.pk3" with underscores so it looks like this "Project_Brutality_2.03.pk3". now some wads and pk3 files you wont add as they are specifically for gzdoom or like the doomone patch which you wont use for say doom 2 like we are doing this for. you need to add only one mod at a time to test if it still boots after you add it. here i added the 2 sounds and the character and visor mods
default = "zdoom" zdoom = "/opt/retropie/ports/zdoom/zdoom +set fullscreen 1 +set freelook 1 -iwad /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/doom2.wad -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/Project_Brutality_2.03.pk3 -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/UDV_v1.62_C_ADD_IN_Misc_Alternate_DoomGuy.pk3 -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/UDV_v1.62_C_ADD_IN_Misc_Alternate_Visor.pk3 -file /home/pi/RetroPie/ports/ports/doom/PB_VanillaPlayerSounds.pk3 -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/PB_VanillaMonsterSounds.pk3"
if you want to add this to a specific game just add it to that games emulators.cfg that you can switch back and forth on. so for example this is how my doom 2 wad would look normally:
default = "zdoom" zdoom = "/opt/retropie/ports/zdoom/zdoom -iwad /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/doom2.wad"
now i want to add the new stuff. however change the first name of the new stuff from "zdoom =" to "projbrutal =". so it will look like this:
default = "zdoom" zdoom = "/opt/retropie/ports/zdoom/zdoom -iwad /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/doom2.wad" default = "zdoom" projbrutal = "/opt/retropie/ports/zdoom/zdoom +set fullscreen 1 +set freelook 1 -iwad /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/doom2.wad -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/Project_Brutality_2.03.pk3 -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/UDV_v1.62_C_ADD_IN_Misc_Alternate_DoomGuy.pk3 -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/UDV_v1.62_C_ADD_IN_Misc_Alternate_Visor.pk3 -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/PB_VanillaPlayerSounds.pk3 -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/PB_VanillaMonsterSounds.pk3"
now when it says press a button to configure, i can go into that menu and choose between the normal game version and the project brutality version.

@retrofreak89 please re read my last post. i forgot to edit all of the file locations from where i keep them.
-
Ok in gonna try this and let you know if it worked..
Also do i need any of the comptible patches? -
Question when i make a cfg with those lines do i make a config folder named project brutality or do i edit the cfg it self in the config doom folder?
Edit
Yeah i think theres a mistake some where cant figure it out maybe u can?
Anyway what i did was i put the same wads and pk3 files in the doom folder i then edit the doom 2config file and added those lines in the cfg..i copy paste it.
But when i go to boot it up it just crashes right away hmmEdit:
Ok i got project to boot up but it seems the textures and hud is not working because i got textures problems hmm i keep running into problems i rly want this mod too.
Im rly not sure what im doing wrong i want it to run with doom2 do i add those lines to config but no luck -
@retrofreak89 dont add any mods in the config except the ones i posted. Make sure it works. Then add 1 mod at a time and test to see if that mod works. If not you might need to use a patch but you need to find out what each patch does first. You dont want to patch stuff that is the wrong stuff or isnt needed. Some of the mods are gzdoom only and there is nothing you can do about it.
-
@edmaul69 ok how do i know which patch does what?
-
@retrofreak89 google the patch name. I dunno.
-
Hmm weird brutality boots but none of the other files work like the visie hud and sounds i did it the right away tho i added all pk3 and files to doom folder i then went to doom config folder and added those -file lines to cfg i copy paste it and brutality boots but its very glitchy textures and no other mods boot with it hmm..im not sure where i went wrong do you know
-
@retrofreak89 i know that the alternad character works. Your guy is green when you use that mod. The sounds i dont know for sure what they do and i have no clue what the visor is. But i played a little bit and it wasnt glitchy. In doom 2 at the beginning there is even a guy in what i believe is a white labcoat carrying an axe. I will try to play some more and see if i can get it to glitch out. I havent changed zdooms graphic settings though. They are still the default settings. Not sure what you have enabled or disabled.
-
@edmaul69 by glitchy i mean when i start up the game at the menu the whole screen is green and glitchy the title menu too but once in game its fine but it seems like the hud is not working for me even tho it is in the -file lines i copied pastede exactly like you did hmm...weird if i cant fix this i might go back to brutal
-
@retrofreak89 the main menu screen is a black background, but the menu and the logo are perfectly fine for me. Must be a graphic setting you chose or one of the mods you added.
-
@edmaul69 thats weird i got the glitchy menu and background even when i first booted the game so even with default settings also without mods i also try with mods like visor its a hud but its not working for me i think ill give up on brutality and Just stick to brutal because i cant seem to fix
-
@retrofreak89 well the visor doesnt work for me but the main pk3 gives me different weapons than brutal doom so i am using it just for that. Plus project brutality has different weapons if you choose between project brutality, brutal doom and normal in the menu, so i like those options as well.
-
@edmaul69
How do all these mods run for you do u ever get slow down? What resolution u running?
The pi 3 should be able to handle brutal doom and most megawads right? But i do see some slow downs maybe its my resolution.. -
@retrofreak89 im on a 1024x768 resolution. Winters fury is nigh unplayable so i havent tested on games like that. and brutal doom has run pretty good on the games i had been playing with it. I havent really tested on games like knee deep in zdoom where there is a lot of stuff going on.
-
@edmaul69 isnt knee deel doom 1?
Also when i play brutal doom i still get the old music soundtracks even tho i added metaldoom vol4 wad hmm do i need to change it in sound options or something to get it working ?Edit: Wow lol i Just tried Just the base game doom on 1024x resolution it lags a little is your pi overclocked or something?? 800x600 is fine tho
-
@retrofreak89 nope not overclocked. I run them from a samsung class 10 micro sd card, not a hard drive. You can run games that use doom and ultimate doom with mods. Just point to those doom files instead of doom2.wad. Kizd uses ultimate doom.
Also just an fyi dosbox games lag a lot worse from a hard drive.
-
@edmaul69 huh in confused?
I also run from a class 10 SD card and not overclocked..
I guess i cant play all megawads? I Just tried valient and the first level has open Arras and langs like crazy talking like 12fps and thats without mods Just Valiant sux i wish rpi 3 was a bit stronger
My pc fried long ago so i cant play there and no money to rebuy new one pi is all i got for doom anyways.
I dont get how yours is running smoother than mine could u try the Valiant mod for and let me know if the first level in open area runs good that runs horrible for me anyways that of u want too at least..
Valiant is good tho at least i heard but idk why it runs so slow.. -
Just tested brutal valient and smooth as butter.
-
@edmaul69 the beginning part is smooth but once u get outside it lags like crazy(the first part when you go outside where all the boxes are there) i also tested doomworld mega project 2016 it has 50 maps and even there some of the maps that are outside lag like crazy but inside smooth as butter weird i guess rpi 3 cant handle the outside textures in some levels??
