I just checked the page you linked, did you get any kind of response at all about things? Just curious. I'm highly impressed with his work.

His work is impressive. I wish DraStic was open source so everyone could get a better look. However, there are a few posts on that forum where he goes into certain details more thoroughly and it's all very interesting. In answer to your question, he has not responded in any way that I'm aware.

I've had a quick read through the Drastic forums and this is his response to why paid users of his work were complaining why is it 'free' on the RPI

It's on Raspberry Pi because I released the port for it, as a semi-closed beta. I asked people not to distribute it but since I did link to it publicly somewhere it was basically inevitable. It still would have been nice if maintainers of a major front end didn't decide to incorporate it prematurely. That said, I still plan to release an "official" first version although at this point the lines have been really blurred as to what that even means.

As for why they get to use it for free, I guess I don't have much of an answer for that other than that it's simply up to my discretion and I don't think the RPi ecosystem or community is a good fit for paid apps. This isn't completely without precedent, I released the Pandora version of DraStic (which the RPi one is more similar to than the Android) without charging, and before the Android version.

The answer seems to suggest that it will still be supported as the RPI isn't seen as much of a threat to his work more getting it 'out there' and hoping people will register to offer support for future work

Which is exactly what happened with me, I discovered Drastic on RetroPie, and then purchased it for use on the move on my GPD Q9 - perhaps more people will help support it, as it's an awesome piece of work.

Yeah I wish I had a phone that could run it. I really need to find an Android phone that I don't hate size wise that is still a decent model.

I purchased it to run on my older GPD Q88+ and it runs very well. The DS really has a great library.

Yeah, I'm using an iPhone SE though because I wanted an near flagship phone but with a small form factor. I don't like most new smart phones as they're just too big to fit in a pocket easily.

I have that same complaint. I also have an iPhone currently, but I think I'm gonna move to Android next. The GPD models mentioned above by myself and GtBFilms are actually dedicated gaming tablets that are very budget-friendly, so that might be something to consider as well.

Awesome that is probably the best resolution possible. I hope things settle down for him soon.

I've submitted a PR to get DraStic back in RetroPie-Setup: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/1989

Let's wait if it'll be merged...

@meleu I can't see any reason it wouldn't be. Exophase was pretty clear. He intends to provide updates and support in future. I think the correct approach was taken and it seems he respects that. This is good news for everyone including Exophase. I bet a lot of people have purchased DraStic for Android based on how well it runs on the Pi. I had tried lr-desmume and DraStic is just light years beyond it for performance.

My next phone will likely be an android, and when that happens if Drastic is still there on the android store, I will definitely do so after experiencing it on the pi.

@Charononus Drastic is a fucking brilliant emulator. The problem is that Exophase is trying to make money off of people who own a Pi...

That's not true. What made you draw that conclusion?

@meleu I don't actually think that. I still think it is a great emu. He is giving it to Pi people because he is a lovely person. OR it was released to PI in order to make money via Android. I'm not cynical, at all. But, fair play! Why not? That's what I would do...

Wow I don't think I've ever seen someone complain about being given something for free before. So word of mouth about Drastic increases and he makes some more money. You are honestly complaining about that? Seriously? Wow.

@Charononus Maybe you were just hatched yesterday? Perhaps a few days before... So, you think that someone who sells a closed-source emulator, for PROFIT is some sort of good guy? Send me £4.99 via PayPal and I will tell you what I really think.
