Hey guys I'm just starting out with raspberry pi and I'm having that same issue and it seems like what y'all did fix the problem. I just don't know yet how to do the things you decribed is there anyway yall could go into more detail for a beginner. Thank you in advance
Sorry to be so late, but I missed your reply the other month. For what it's worth, easiest for most users would be to SSH (via Terminal emulation app) into your Raspberry Pi using
ssh pi@[Insert your Pi's IP address here, 192.168.1.253 is my RetroPie Pi's address on my LAN. Yours will vary, of course.]
(Or plug in a keyboard and manually type the following into the command prompt accessible after quitting EmulationStation.)
Then type copy and paste
sudo __platform=rpi3 ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh
into the command line, and hit return/enter. After which you'll be in the usual RetroPie setup app. From there "Update RetroPie-Setup script", and then "Update all installed packages". Finally, "Perform reboot", and everything ought to be fine again to access from your TV and control via gaming controller :-) -
hello,
I have read through this forum and when I tried to run the platform change command rpi3 wasnt one of my options, I am using pi3 but could setting it as pi2 make any serious problems for me? this is what I did and am currently setting this up as rpi2 in hopes that I can run the configurations.. the emulators were running and the games were running fine without the platform variable set however I was unable to change anything in the retro pie configurations. It looks like by setting it as raspberry pi 2 it may work... but I am concerned with what implications could arise from me doing this... if anyone knows what problems might arise from this I would love to hear it and since I probabily wont check the forum for a response could you reply in forum but also send me an email so that way other users could be informed in the forum and i can also get this answer in my email? thanks a bunch! email= Sting_Jay@yahoo.comI hope this information and question could help someone in the future! thanks for your response.

@wizardling thanks for being so helpful with your post, i did exactly what you said to do however rpi3 wasnt one of my available options so i typed rpi2.. following all other steps as you have provided I believe the system may work despite having/using raspberry pi 3 (set up as raspberry pi 2). I guess I will find out if this will work ultimately when I am finished, however, I would like to extend a big thanks! THANKS!

@Wizardling unfortunately you must have updated the system packages before updating retropie-setup - you can cd to
Retropie-Setup
and rungit pull
, and then it should launch (then update all packages).alternatively launch
sudo __platform=rpi3 ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh
and then do an update.I did the following using Putty.
sudo __platform=rpi2 ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.shThen I selected from the menu "Update RetroPie-Setup script".
I'm receiving this response:
What should I do next to resolve the Unknown platform error on my Pi 2?
-
I finally found these two files, oricutron.sh and ti99sim.sh, deleting them both.
I finished what appears to be a completely, up to date package of Retropie.
Everything works great so far, but for some reason, it no longer can find the splash screen when first booting and produces a small error because of that.
Not a deal breaker at all, but is there a way to get this back?
-
@addison re-enable the splash screen from the setup script
-
@addison where were those files located? I need to find them in terminal and delete them.
-
/home/pi/RetroPie-Extra/scriptmodules/emulators/oricutron.sh
/home/pi/RetroPie-Extra/scriptmodules/emulators/ti99sim.sh
-
I did the command, but It does repeat the same error and without the "rpi3" option
Can anyone help me? -
@inky1003 Please open a new topic and provide the details of your setup as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
