@DarkWolf if you want to edit the .es_systems.cfg you should do that in:
/home/pi/.emulationstation
(i don't have my pi running, but i am pretty sure this is the correct path.emulationstation is a hidden folder. Your modified es_systems.cfg file should live in this folder. Emulationstation will read this file as the primary systems file.
That is true, es_systems.cfg is in .emulationstation, i am editinhg it right now with ssh.

@darthlink
Yeah, sry, that was a old path, edited itPlease check if there is a emulator folder for psp in
/opt/retropie/emulators
You should check this first
all i have in /opt/retropie is: mupen64plus, pcsx-rearmed, pifba and retroarch
-
@darthlink did you install the lr-ppsspp ?
than it should be in/opt/retropie/libretrocores

yes i had install lr-ppsspp but i will uninstall it and install ppsspp instead
-
@darthlink it shouldn't depend in the emulator you use, just wanted to make sure the runcommand script will find the emulator...
so install the one you want, edit the es_system.cfg and try it out
Btw: My answer is kinda overkill now :D

but this is a unnecessary informationso does this mean ( let say i keep the lr-ppsspp ) that i have to change my command line in es_systems.cfg to point to /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-ppsspp ??
-
@darthlink no, you can change it by pressing A atfer you selected a rom and it loads
that opens the runcommand config and you can change the emulator it will use to run roms -
psp does appear in emulationstation - i'm not sure why we're editing es_systems.cfg
-
@dankcushions it doesn't for me?

psp does appear in emulationstation - i'm not sure why we're editing es_systems.cfg
because mine does not automatically appear unfortunatelly
-
that must be some sort of bug if true. there's nothing special about psp that would make it not appear. editing es_systems.cfg is generally a bad idea.
-
@dankcushions it wasn't in my
es_system.cfg
so it doesn't appear if I got the functionality of the config right -

It was installed properly. why is it a bad idear ? I also had to edit the es_systems.cfg to add kodi and raspbian in retropie. Not because i had to but because i wanted to. I just did not want to have to quit retropie if i wanted to go to kodi or raspbian so this works perfectly after editing the es_systems.cfg.
If it also work with psp then it great for me
-
@darthlink I downloaded the lr-ppsspp emulator and edited my es_system.cfg and it is showing up now, so it should work for you... As I don't want to download a rom for it I can't test it (just created a empty testrom.iso to test if it shows up)
-
@darthlink you shouldn't be recommending people edit es_systems.cfg if they don't know what the repercussions are especially when if psp was installed properly it should be generated by default. There is no reason it shouldn't be generating unless it either didn't install properly or user error.
-
@herb_fargus Basicly this is totally right and I experienced this behavior before, but for me it doesn't work for ppsspp (like it doesn't for darthlink)
so I edited it manually and it works... I don't know what is going on, I'm using the latest retropie version

it is not too hard to do in a comand prompt: sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh
then go in manage packages then optional packages and just choose either ppsspp or lr-ppsspp and it does install all with no error
Probleme is that even after a reboot, it was still not in retropie and not in es_systems.cfg
i have a backup of es_systems.cfg and a full backup of my raspberry pi 3 so i dont know why the fuss about giving and receiving help that may solve an issue but i am appreciating all help because this is what this is about right, helping each other.

It was installed properly. why is it a bad idear ? I also had to edit the es_systems.cfg to add kodi
kodi also automatically appears in ES once installed (in the ports menu). and raspbian/pixel i expect (i don't use it)
