Problem: Video previews are not playing in ES, even though previously they were.

      Pi Model: 3
      RetroPie version: 4.2
      Built from: Pre-made from website

Steps to reproduce: So it's a little convoluted, but here goes...

      1. Be a wannabe theme maker, start making theme. Decide to add Grid View support.

      2. Download the Grid View ES mod and install it (while correctly backing up the original ES file)

      3. Begin adding video support to my theme. Finished, it looks amazing, good job.

      4. Rename the current ES file to "emulationstation-gridview", rename the backup file to be "emulationstation".

      5. Restart EmulationStation.

      6. Now my theme does not show marquees or video previews.

Eventually I realized that GridView was adding an "es_settings-extra" file (which holds information about which view is used for which system) and overwriting my gamelist.xml files (dude, wtf?). All of the instances of video and marquee paths in the gamelist files had been removed. Luckily I had a backup, so I just replaced the overwritten one, and the marquees came back; but not the videos. I also deleted the "es_settings-extra" file (only appears when GridView mod is installed).

I have confirmed that I am in Video View, since I can remove lines from my theme pertaining to the video view, and those sections disappear. If I do the same to the Detailed View, nothing disappears, indicating I'm definitely not in the Detailed View.

In my theme currently, when I go to a system that has videos, nothing displays in that area, not even the game's cover art. Previously, if there was no video, it would just display the cover art instead.

Since I discovered that the GridView mod was rewriting files, I'm guessing there's another file some where that's causing all of this havoc. Does anyone know what could be going wrong?

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is? I'd really like to not have to rebuild again.
