Got a Pi for my birthday

@Sano Yes I set up the controller correctly in the configure input part, although I'm not sure what your referring to when you mention Sudo rebbot through ssh.
-
Forgive me for my ignorance, I'm using retropi
RetroPie isn't an emulator itself, but rather a collection of emulators and other software brought together in an easy to manage system for the Raspberry Pi. When @backstander asked which emulator you're using, he was trying to clarify which of these emulators you're unable to exit from. If it happens to be one without "lr-" at the front of it's name, then 'select+start' won't work, requiring some other action.
-
My apologizes, I wasn't trying to confuse you. I have Nintendo, Snes, Gameboy, Gameboy color, Mame, Atari 2600, Sega Mega drive, Sega 32 and dreamcast on the RetroPie.
-
No need to apologize. However, those systems you listed still aren't emulators. using the link I posted above, make note of the column labeled emulator. The name of the one you're using personally is flashed briefly in a small white window as the game is launching. If in fact you're unable to exit in all the systems you listed, then chances are almost certain that you're at least using one "lr-" (libretro or RetroArch) emulator.

@mediamogul Wow that is a fast screen, for just the SNES emulator I'm using lr-snes9x-next
-
To move forward it'll likely require that you post the contents of a few configuration files. To do that you'll need to familiarize yourself with SSH in order to troubleshoot effectively.
Edit: This information on SFTP will help as well:

Looks like fun ( my head hurts looking just at it) lol I will try to research it abit more this evening.

Hi @Luinard , I just want to check you are using a Retropie image downloaded from the website and written to the SD yourself and not a third party image. There have been a number of threads recently about issues exiting emulators and mostly seem to be people using third party images.
-
@simonster I will check into that, I copied the Sd card from my buddies card. All his stuff works fine, mine works fine beside this issue.
-
You'll do well to start from scratch using a fresh image from this website. However, the previously noted information will always be helpful.

I agree with @mediamogul, you'll do well to start from scratch using a fresh image. You're buddy probably has his/hers configured and setup for the exact controller they use.

additionally, lr-snes9x-next is the old name for lr-snes9x2010 (i think). that was changed ages ago so you're using a quite old version of retropie. we can't really support that.
