PiDesktop - Element14 - Retropie Support?
-
Hello everyone,
I purchaced this product (https://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-83477/l/pi-desktop-convert-your-raspberry-pi-into-a-desktop-pc) and I have no issues getting retropie to boot of the Msata drive (or any usb drive for that matter). My question is specifically regarding using the powerswitch.
While it works fine to power up the unit, and if I hold it , the unit will powerdown but its not actually shutting down the unit. There is a pidesktop.deb file that controls the hat and I think this is what I am missing here.
However the instructions say to download the DEB file in the PIXEL distro (which we are not using). So I think I need to try some variation of the APT-GET and install it.Id like to actually be able to shutdown the pi from the switch, or if I shut it down via the software (maybe the hat is smart enough) to actually know this and power off the unit.
Its still a very new product..
Anyone have one or thoughts?

I think you can install .deb packages using the dpkg command
dpkg -i filename.deb
Just copy your file to your device and run the appropriate command. However, you will need to check that any prerequisites are installed, as I don't think dpkg does anything clever unlike apt-get which checks the dependencies.

Thanks for the prompt reply, I am still tinkering with this and will try your suggestion.
