[New Theme] Maximus Pie (RetroPie version of Maximus Arcade)
-
One of the first gaming front-ends I used on my PC was called Maximus Arcade. It was pretty simple in looks...but it worked great.
Since Emulation Station has the new features where we can manipulate the carousel now, I decided to recreate it for RetroPie use.
This is version 1.0 release of Maximus Pie.
The theme supports video previews and marquees. I've included support for the four new "virtual systems" also that are forth-coming.
The theme can be installed via the Theme manager (need to update to latest version).
Or here's the download link on Github to install manully.

I'm hoping I didn't have any bugs in this 1.0 release.....but if you find any, please let me know.

Wow, amazing theme! Looks a lot like Attract Mode (if you know what that is). I wonder how you did it.

@dmmarti Hey! Nicely done! It definitely looks authentic. Does it work with 4:3 aspect ratio like the original? Ahh the nostalgia never ends. This time, it’s front-end theme nostalgia on top of retro-gaming nostalgia. Did you keep the swoosh sound effects? I love it.
-
@dmmarti well done, looks great!
I'll be downloading this later today.
You should try to add it to the themes downloader when you have the chance:)

Yep.
Just tested it. Looks really nice - well done! And great job on adding support for the new collections.
-
@pjft Thanks!
Yea...now that you and the other devs have been enhancing Emulation Station .... it's awesome that we can now begin making ES themes mimic a lot of the things that's being done in Attract Mode.
So thanks to you and the other folks who make this all possible!
-
@dmmarti very nice! Maximus was one of the first frontends I used (and MALA) when I first started my arcade project. Can't wait to give this a go.

Super theme!!!!

@stephan311280 --- Here's the Maximus Pie photoshop template.
Have fun...and let me know what you make. I'd love to see it.
I actually fired up my Maximus Arcade front-end on my older gaming PC not too long after making this RetroPie version. Ah....the memories I have of using it......hahaha.

My wire really likes this theme. I "scraped" all my games and it works great except the marquee images are too small. I went into each marquee file and replaced it with a larger image and that did not help. I also "disabled the thumbnails and allowed for larger images and re-scraped. No luck.
I basically only run a dozen games in the "arcade" roms folder. Just classic arcade games like millipede and pacman.
Running a raspberry pi3 with 4.3.8 of retropie

@dmmarti Could you give us a breakdown of where the images and movies go along with where the config file for maximus pie is and the file name of it ?
Thanks in advance!! Great theme!!!

@nollerd2 Figured it all out..
Except where the setting is for the arcade top of the arcade marquis..
:)
You need to add to each game where the mp4 video snaps are stored in my case I've stored them here:
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/art/snaps/
You will also add the rom name with the extension at the end. *see my example below to see how it looks..
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<gameList>
<game>
<path>./aliensyn.zip</path>
<name>Alien Syndrome (set 4, System 16B, unprotected)</name>
<video>./art/snaps/aliensyn.mp4</video>
<rating>0</rating>

</game> -
@nollerd2 use pastebin for walls of text.
-
@herb_fargus sorry I had a feeling that was a bit much...
:}

@nollerd2 I love this theme. Is there a way to use a default marquee for all the games rather than it changing like the wheel. Thanks

Anyone tested this on 4:3 screen?
