MAME ROW #42 - Joust
-
Believe it or not I'd heard the name of this game before but never actually played it.
It makes a refreshing change to not have a fire button.
Unfortunately I'm not very good at playing it, but it's a fun game and a worthy selection for this week's mame row.
Doubt I'll get time to play it this weekend though as I'm off to the UK's longest running retro event for a couple of days!
-
@gtbfilms That looks like a really cool event! Are you looking to pick up anything in particular, or just to be a spectator?
-
Can anyone recommend me some shaders for Joust?

I dunno, to be authentic I think you'd want something like this
but I have to think it'd be hard to see…

MAME ROW #43 is live!
-
Well this has been fun.
The post from @caver01 makes me suggest that we could have a thread for each of the real arcade classics, like "Joust: official thread" for people to discuss tactics, talk about where they saw the game the first time, but maybe more importantly; to post photos of their hi-scores.I wasn't really familiar with Joust before this, but I'll definitely return soon.

Joust has long been a favorite of mine. That doesn't mean I am very good at it though!
I believe this is what people often refer to as "modesty".
Give this man a medal! -

Nice idea.

@caver01 Man! Your post deserves a dedicated topic in "General discussion and gaming" section! Really cool!
I was exactly looking for a good home spot. :-)

Well done sir! It murders me that I wasn't able to get any more play time in this past week. Still, I think this is the one MAME ROW where I'll just keep at it as I have time. I'd love to commit those strats of yours to memory and increase my skills to pay some bills.
-
Yeah, I am waiting for someone to knock me off of Highscore Hill. Now, you have a place to post yours even though #42 has passed.

Yeah! This is the MAME ROW way of playing. :-)

@obsidianspider No, I took the train this year, because I am under strict instructions NOT to buy any more retro-gear!
I did buy a couple of t-shirts, but that was it.
They had a decent selection of about 80 cabs, plus about 10 pinball machines. And of course rows and rows of retro computers. Some interesting talks as well this year - one by Gary Bracey, from Ocean software, and another from David Pleasance who was the MD of Commodore UK. There was a demonstration of the Spectrum Next from legendary programmer Jim Bagley as well.
If you are interested, someone has put a couple of them on YouTube already.
