      Joystick-wise, ES is configured correctly, and all emulators function as intended with the joystick.

      The only outlier is PiFBA, which had jumbled the button assignment, and the x-axis (left/right) was inverted.

      I changed the buttons successfully in fba2x.cfg, but I can't get the x-axis to flip.

      It currently is (and started as):

      JA_LR=0
      JA_UD=1

      I have tried:

      JA_LR_1=0

      JA_L=-0
      JA_R=+0

      JA_L_1=-0
      JA_R_1=+0

      And none of them work. Nada de nada.

      Joystick test shows L/R axis is indeed 0, and U/D is 1.

      Any ideas?

        I did a lot of reading, and it appears that (currently) there is no way to individually set the +/- of the x or y axis in PiFBA's fba2x.cfg file. It's only paying attention to the axis number and applies its own +/-, which in my case is reversed.

        I circumvented this by switching the plugs of the left and right inputs on the joystick pcb, then altered the joystick's config file to tell it the buttons were backwards.

        Now all emulators run L/R properly, but the ES menu is inverted as far as L/R goes. Not the end of the world, but it would have been much nicer to be able to flip the axis designation in the fba2x.cfg file so everything was wired correctly and worked accordingly.

        So it goes. :)

          @phrazelle you can fix the ES L/R by editing the es_input.cfg file.

          go to /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/ open es_input.cfg and switch the values for right and left. This will only effect the controller for Emulation Station and not effect the emulators.
