I successfully installed Brutal Doom mod using the ZDoom engine on my RetroPie. I uploaded a package to make the process a little bit easier for others. Due to copyright, the original doom.wad and doom2.wad are not included. Midi music works fine you as long as you set sound to "timidity++" in the Doom title menu.

Brutal Doom add-on for RetroPie v0.1

      What is it?

This is a collection of files to easily add the Brutal Doom mod version 0.20b_R3 and the Doom Hell On Earth mod to your installation of ZDoom on the RetroPie. The original doom.wad and doom2.wad files are NOT included but are REQUIRED.

      How to install?

I will try to make this easier in future versions, for now there are still eight steps to follow.

If you don't have ZDoom and Doom 1 and Doom 2 installed yet, install those first:

      1. Install ZDoom by going to the RetroPie-Setup menu -> Manage packages -> Optional packages -> zdoom -> install from binary
      2. In case you cannot find the option to install ZDoom under "optional packages," look for it in "experimental packages"
      3. Obtain an original Ultimate Doom wad, named doom.wad, and an original Doom 2 wad, named doom2.wad, and copy them to your RetroPie into the folder /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/ (create the doom folder). You can obtain those by buying Ultimate Doom and Doom 2, for example from www.gog.com

Now install the mods using the included files
      4. Transfer the contents of the included folder called "Copy_To_RetroPie" into the root folder of your RetroPie. It should add some files to the /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports and the /opt/retropie/configs/ports folders
      5. Reboot your RetroPie and you should see a menu option "Ports" that now includes "Doom 1 - Brutal Doom", "Doom 2 - Brutal Doom", and "Doom - Hell on Earth" as new entries.
      6. Start one of the Doom games
      7. Navigate the Doom title menu with cursor keys, enter and esc, and go into the sound options menu
      8. Select Timidity++ as your sound driver to enable the Doom midi music

        Thanks for this great work!

But I can't get my Xbox Controller getting to work correctly.
After I activate the Controller support the arrow up goes constantly

        any suggestions?
