I used the partial install instructions to install retropie and n64 and nes emulators a few days ago, to save space on my Pi3. I got ROMs for Zelda (nes) and Mario (n64). I was able to start up Emulation Station without trouble, but when I started a game, I had issues. For the n64 games (several), I can't control anything. (I use a keyboard to play.) No buttons do anything. I can't navigate menus or leave the emulator. For that, I tried ESC, F4, Start+Select, checking the config files; everything the internet suggested. I have to pull the plug to get back to the desktop. However, for Zelda in nes, I can control the game just fine and do everything normally, except quit. I can't get out of it without pulling the plug. Do you guys have any idea what to do?

when you did https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/#configure-controllers, what did you configure as 'start' and what did you configure as 'hotkey'? to quit it's hotkey + start.
