      Hi all,

I have tried to scour the forums for an answer to my problems to no luck! Please bear with me, I'm rather new to Raspberry Pi and am far from experienced with Linux.

I am using a RPi 3 (official rpi power supply, and using a wireless keyboard), and I recently purchased a 64gb card (Sandisk Extreme) so I could fit all my library of games on board.
I am looking to have Raspbian, Openelec, and Retropie installed on this card (as I had done on a smaller card, maybe 6 months ago).
Installed Raspbian and Openelec without a hitch, but I've hit roadblocks as soon as I have tried to set up Retropie.

I installed Retropie 3.6 (seems outdated, but it's the latest version available on berryboot) directly from the berryboot menu. Rebooted after and got into emulationstation no problem.
However when I select RETROPIE-SETUP from the menu, a message briefly flashes up in the command line before returning to emulationstation. It reads:

Unknown platform - please manually set the __platform variable to one of the following: armv7-mali generic-x11 odroid-c1 rpi1 rpi2 x86

This seems a bit strange as it is missing the "rpi3 rpi3-64" options that seem to be available on other peoples similar forum posts.

To try and fix this I have returned to the command line by hitting F4 in ES, and typed:

      cd RetroPie-Setup
      git pull

After the packages have been updated, I rebooted and loaded back into ES. After selecting RetroPie-Setup again in the menu, the command line appears, and a number of other packages cannot be found and are automatically installed (lsb-release).

After completing this install, the blue background of the RetroPie-Setup appears, but with an error message, reading:

      Programmer error, unrecognised boot option.

After hitting "OK" (the only option) and waiting ~20 seconds, I believe some updates (and possibly deleting files) automatically runs very quickly, and the RetroPie-Setup version 4.3.3) menu loads, and everything seems great.

It's not until after a reboot, I found that when launching Retropie, the process stops (maybe halfway through) and it reads:

      Raspbian GNU/Linux 8 retropie tty1

      retropie login:[/code]

I enter login: pi and password: raspberry and am taken to the Retropie command line, with an error at the top line saying that emulation station cannot be found:

      /opt/retropie/supplementary/emulationstation/emulationstation.sh: 5: /opt/retropie/supplementary/emulationstation/emulationstation.sh: ./emulationstation: not found

I wasn't sure how to proceed troubleshooting with this instance, so instead I headed over to the Retropie website to download the latest version for Raspberry Pi 3 (4.3). After acquiring the image, putting it on a usb, converting it to squashfs format for berryboot, and installing the image, I reboot and run the new retropie OS.
While it is starting, I can see that it has: [FAILED] failed to start Remount Root and Kernel File Systems
And also, for about a minute the process is waiting for: A start job is running for dev-disk-by\x2dpartuuid-5728b712\x2d01.device

After this has run, it says that dependency has failed for system file check on the above location, and the process halts with a message:

Welcome to emergency mode! After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view
system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" to try again
      to boot into default mode.
sulogin: root account is locked, starting shell
      root@retropie:~#

After this, I'm all out of ideas and thought I would seek some more experienced help on here.
I hope I've given all the relevant information.

Any help here would be seriously appreciated!!

      Thank you,
      Tim

Since RetroPie image for BerryBoot is not really working (and with little support), I think you should try and install RetroPie ontop of a Raspbian (Jessie) image. After all, the RetroPie image is just a Raspbian lite with RetroPie pre-installed.
Start with a Raspbian working in BerryBoot, then follow the steps in https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Manual-Installation/

RetroPie does work in berryboot, but we don't technically offer support. Latest berryboot image is linked on our download page. It's 4.3.

However you don't need to triple boot as said. You can run Kodi from RetroPie also.

Thanks for the great suggestion, I wasn't aware it was on top of Raspbian Lite. Now that I know that, it doesn't make sense for me to have two versions of Raspbian!
            Cheers for the speedy responses.
