Wizard of Wor is an arcade game released in 1980 by Midway. Up to two players fight together in a series of monster-infested mazes, clearing each maze by shooting the creatures.
The game was ported to the Atari 8-bit family, Commodore 64, Atari 2600, and Atari 5200 and renamed to The Incredible Wizard for the Bally Astrocade. (ref.: Wikipedia).

This overlay was requested by @Riverstorm. I didn't know this game but found out it is a very famous classic arcade; also one of the first to use speech sinthesys.

Making this overlay was really challenging as both the original arcade artwork and marquee graphics do not fit with the available space on a 1080p screen. The actual game area on screen is different vs the common size, leaving very little space on top and bottom for artwork.

      Bezel:

      Marquee:

      Side Art:

      Flyer:

      Therefore:

      • vectorized marquee, bezel and side art

      • extracted and "cleaned-up" selected graphics
look at these bad guys as examples:

0_1509821816436_fly.JPG (Fly wings recreated as they are "cut-off" in the original bezel)

      • recreated vector logo

      • created new overlay mixing up graphics from all above mentioned sources.

Quite tough but happy with the result: what do you think ?

      ENJOY!!

You can find this and more hand crafted quality overlays in the rpie-ovl repository.
And if you want an easy way to install them, @meleu created a great dedicated script.
Perform these commands on your RetroPie:

      cd
      git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/meleu/rpie-art
      cd rpie-art
      ./rpie-art.sh

After launching rpie-art.sh script you just have to follow the instructions in the dialog boxes. Once you have the rpie-art.shscript, choose the Update option to get all the latest art in the repository.

        The final result:

Note: found out that game has black unused sidebar (inside the game area). These are used just to place some extra green blinking "stars" (dots). No actual use during game or attract mode. Looked quite bad !
Decided to expand the overlay to use also this space.

Wow. I am always amazed at the amount of effort you put into these and the quality and volume of your output.

              Well done.

                @pjft Thanks!
Still having fun finding "old" artwork on the web, restoring it and creating overlays ;-)

Hey Udb, I missed the post and just seeing it tonight/morning around 12:30 AM but I had to comment on how amazing and incredible it looks. I will be testing it out tomorrow. If you feel your ears ringing tomorrow it's due to all the praise I'll be showering your way. :) Thank you so much for doing this, it's absolutely amazing! You're one hell'va artist!!
