I realise it's not a priority for here, but I've found the slideshow very bad in the latest KODI. It tends to crash out to a black screen then back to the RetroPie menu after a random length of time (15 minutes but sometimes much less). It's also very sluggish compared to the old Kodi. Would be nice to offer an Old Kodi install for people wanting to make use of the slide show feature.... Or better still, perhaps one could be built into the RetroPie front end one day?

That is a known bug in Kodi 17 on Raspberry Pi (atleast), still not fixed.
You can downgrade Kodi, it was explained already in this forum.

No longer available it seems (I tried the advice I could find here). Seems the solution is to find an image of RetroPie on-line with an older version of Kodi preinstalled. Easier said than done. All I need is KODI 16.

          Any advice appreciated.

Yes it is still available, just update Kodi first in RetroPie-Setup before downgrading.
