Controller stopped working for Retropie menu and ROMs
-
I'm very new to the Raspberry Pi and Retropie system that was gifted to me by a friend (who also did the initial set up and ROM uploads). I moved recently and finally got around to unpacking the RP and plugging it in only to find out that the controller no longer seems to work. I used it before and it worked fine but now I have no control to navigate the main menu. Oddly enough, if left alone the screen will eventually darken and when I touch a button on the controller, it will light back up but still won't allow me to navigate/select/or go to main menu to change anything.
I'm pretty clueless at the moment. I've tried restarting it, making sure all peripherals were plugged in before connecting power, made sure the controller is in the correct USB slot (upper left).
Here's what I know about my system (it came as a CanaKit):
Pi Model or other hardware: 3
Power Supply used: CanaKit Model: DCAR-052A5
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest):Not sure but I took a pic of the boot screen and found Linux Retropie 4.4.26-v7
Built From: (Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website, Berryboot, or on top of existing OS etc.. - please provide the filename of any image used) Again, not sure but I believe it used a pre made SD image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: 1 USB controller
Controller used: Logitech Gamepad F310
Error messages received: No error messages received BUT during bootup I noticed it said "0x25: Dirty bit is set. Fs was not properly unmounted and some data may be corrupt. Automatically removing dirty bit." Not sure if that's relevant (to shutdown the system now I've been unplugging it since I have no other option to shut it down)Thanks for any and all help! Hoping I don't have to do a complete system wipe but will if need be.

Try connecting a keyboard that hasn't been connected to the Pi yet and map the D-Pad and A buttons, then find the Controller Mapping menu and re-map the controller.
Notes: There is no "Correct USB Slot", unless I'm mistaken. All of the USBs are connected and it should not matter which slot you put it in. Try changing which slot the controller is plugged in to and/or use a different power source. Sometimes, when a Pi has a lot of things plugged into it and is running off of a low-power charger, things can stop working. -
Thanks kkellog378! Once I get a hold of a USB keyboard I will try that and see what I can do and write the outcome on this thread.
