64gb image: How to fix broken roms?
-
I have been running the "Synth Wave" image by Coin Junkie and most everything works perfectly but a few ROMs don't work. Many ROMs that were emulated poorly I have been able to remedy by switching cores but some refuse to start up at all so I can't even press a button to edit which emulator they use. What is the best way to fix these ROMs using a Windows PC?

@benjaminjay Third party images are not supported on this forum, only the official RetroPie image. If you need support for a TP image you should ask the creator.
My advice is to wipe the card and start fresh with the official image. -
I advise against using pre-made images. You will eventually spend less time setting up everything yourself. You are also putting your hardware at risk in case the creator overclocked at risky settings.
As for not being able to switch emulators for different games, the per-game emulator preference file is located at /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulators.cfg but this will not help if a game is damaged (or a wrong/bad version).

@matchaman don't forget the glorious botnet malware :)

@benjaminjay 3rd party images aside, if it is arcade ROMs, you really can’t use the same ROM with different versions of MAME or FBA as each version of MAME requires a specific version of the ROM. They are often NOT interchangeable even though the name of the ROM is the same. This is probably the most confusing aspect of arcade game emulators, so read the Docs and get familiar with how romsets work.

The main question here was asking the best way for a windows user to access an image file that is setup for linux.
-
@benjaminjay If it's the ROMs, then use the file share and browse directly the folders - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Transferring-Roms/

@benjaminjay I thought you were asking, and I quote:
What is the best way to fix these ROMs using a Windows PC?
But you fail to mention what kind of ROMs, so I assumed arcade, and the answer is that you need to obtain the right ROM version for the right emulator. They are not interchangeable.
Your second question is quite a bit different than that. I suspect Windows is only going to be able to read the boot partition of an SD card setup with the official image. You will need to load a certain kind of driver to let you read/mount linux drive partitions, or use Linux to read them.
<EDIT> @mitu above has a better suggestion that might work for you. Load the image on the system that is going to run it, then connect to the ROM folders over a network with your windows sysetem to add/remove/replace ROMs.
