N64, psx and sound crakling

Hi I have an issue I can't get PSX to work and when I play N64 games it goes to the lower left corner and displays it 4 in by 4 in screen if anyone knows how to fix these issues please tell me and everytime I play a game in general I get crackling coming from my speakers they're not turned up all the way and I tried headsets and it still sounds like it's crackling if anyone knows how to fix any of these issues please tell.

i am using this to help me build one for when i get a rassbari pi
os: ubuntu 64 bit VM
ram:4096 MB
video memory: 16MB
hdd: 30GB

So you're trying to run games, but you're doing it in a VM and allocating only 16 Mb of RAM ? This is a bit peculiar configuration and if you don't have video acceleration, everything will run slow or not at all. I don't expect emulators to perform really well under this circumstances.
If you're just trying to see how the RetroPie looks, that's fine, but don't expect games to run correctly in an emulated environment without some resource allocation.
For PSX games - you're most likely missing the BIOS file(s), look them up https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/.

@otaka It's probably better to run it in a native environment - Ubuntu/Debian preferably. For Windows, there is a RetroArch windows distribution and you can get EmulationStation for Windows as a frontend.
That is if you don't have a Raspberry Pi or another SBC supported by RetroPie directly. -
so i should run a dual boot and work from there in order to get the best out of it would it fix some small problems i would have with the n64 and the sound since i am missing the bios for psx if that what your saying because i don't have the money right now to get one even so would it run what i would like to it full est potential

@otaka What's your end goal here ? Play games, learn to use the Raspberry PI, tinkering ?
If you just want to play games and you don't have a Raspberry PI right now, then the emulators that RetroPie uses under the hood are available for all kinds of platforms - macOS, Windows, even Android - so install them on your OS without the need to dual boot. -

i was looking to play around with it and to make some thing that will run old arcade games -ps 1possibly ps2 , dream cast, game cube, and Xbox games. to give to my cusin as a gift for his doctorate graduation in 1- 2 years when he is done and i would not mind a copy for my self and i dont want to have to build something too big for him that is going to cost me a arm and leg.
