      Here we go:

      Pi 3
      Latest Official Build

On some n64 games the Emulator menu pops up and I can access it ( such as Zelda OOT) but I've ran into some such as Maro Kart 64 that do not give prompt, just a black screen until the rom loads. I tried spamming the A button in case the prompt just couldn't be seen for some reason but that seems to lock up the Pi and it forever stays on a black screen. I can SSH in and such fine, and wind up having to do a command line reboot. (Haven't tried killing ES yet but that wouldn't change my issue).

I swear I just accessed that menu on Mario Kart the other day as I was settign up the default emulators per rom based on compatibility. Now I am stumped.

It sounds like another emulator was launched prior to you using the N64 emulator and left the framebuffer in an unusable state. Two emulators that are currently known to do this are the standalone version of Stella (Atari2600) and DraStic (Nintendo DS). If such an issue happens, there's really nothing to do but restart your system, as restarting Emulation Station isn't enough.
