The N64 Github page says the following:
"Starting with RetroPie 3.3 Mupen64Plus configurations are automatically generated when you configure your controller for the first time in emulationstation. "

I was wondering if there was a way to take this code and make an entry in the retropie menus that would allow the user to automatically configure the controller configurations for non-libretro emulators based on the currently configured Retroarch controllers. (Maybe using this tool to grab the controller player numbers)
These would be mainly used for the Dreamcast and N64 emulators.

Perhaps I would just have to write my own shell script(s) to accomplish this?

Does any one have any input, or ideas about accomplishing this?

I would like to get this done so if I gift a Pi to someone who isn't good with technology they don't have to have to use the command line/SSH into the Pi to edit configuration files.
