Retropie freezing up on me
-
I built a rpi3, installed it in a case with a 5v3a charger, transcend class 10 16gb micro SDHC, and installed retropie 4.3 on it using teh premade image on the github site. I am using 2 usb Logitech F310 gamepads. It worked fine until I put roms on it. Now it constantly freezes up on me. Sometimes its while inputting the controller settings, sometimes while browsing the menus, sometimes while copying roms from usb or sending over the wifi, sometimes it will let me start up a game and freeze a few minutes into game play - but no variation, it always locks up within 10 minutes. It seems to be worse the more roms I put on it. Any ideas or suggestions as to what might be causing the lock ups or what I can change?

5v3a charger,
is this a proper raspberry pi charger? because other chargers (phone chargers, etc) may have the right specs, but aren't providing the stable power that a pi needs.
do you see any lightning bolt, or other symbols in the top right?
are you overclocking?

No overclocking, and as far as I know it's a good charger. It was a buy from best buy, only 5v 3a charger base they had. Most were 1a-2.1a.

Of the gui? No, nothing there.

what case are you using? it still sounds like a power issue to me, but sometimes these things can strike without warning.

Raspberry Pi 3 Basic Starter Kit--Black Case Edition By Vilros https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DMFQZXK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_FBpAAbN5CHMH4
This is the pi and case I got.

@paddyo41 If that is a USB to micro USB cable try swapping it for the shortest, thickest one you have to hand. The power brick should be okay, could just be a really cheap shitty cable, plus it says it is 5 foot. You will get significant voltage drop over 5 foot of shitty, cheap Chinese cable.
Edit. Sorry, it looks like a hardwired PSU. Maybe you got a dud. Most freezing issues like that occur due to a lack of sufficient, stable power. -
@jonnykesh
Copy that, thx. I'll try another cable. I was also told it might be the sd card. I'll try the cable first, then card, and report back. -
@paddyo41 No probs. These type of issues tend to be hardware related 95+% of the time. Hardware is always the easiest thing to swap out. If it persists after checking / replacing hardware then software is the next stop obviously.
