RetroPie not recognizing Gamesir G3S Controller
-
I have two Gamesir G3S controllers, and it took me ages to get them working with the Pi, but they now work perfectly. I followed the instructions of pressing X + Home to use X-Input mode, but the controllers refused to connect to the dongles. This was even the case on my PC and laptop. I even tried using Android mode, and managed to pair with the Bluetooth on the Pi, but this was unreliable. After almost giving up, and returning the controllers, I did one last search on Google. I found a video on Youtube of the same problem, and in one of the comments, someone said to press R1 + X + Home. I gave this a go, and the controllers connected immediately. So try pressing R1 + X + Home to power on the controller, and see if that helps.

@prodigy83 and now you always press this keys combination to power on your controller ?
-
@cosmo0 No, once powered on with this combination, it should remember the setting, and you can then power it on with just the Home button.
-
@prodigy83 THANK YOU! That trick worked perfectly. I'm glad too because I really like that controller and didn't want to have to replace it.
-
@retroed No problem, glad I could help. I just don't understand why the button combination is not mentioned anywhere in the manual, or on the Gamesir website. It's as if it's a reset or something, which forces the controller to connect to the dongle.

I found a Gamesir G3s in a closet and grabbed it to work with my retro pi install. I thought it is a bluetooth controller that can work with the built in bluetooth on the pi. I see in the comments that a dongle is needed? I barely remember there being a dongle. Do I need it or can the controller connect directly to the pi via built in bluetooth?

I have two Gamesir G3s controllers working perfectly with bluetooth on retropie. I connected it with android mode. Never had an issue. Putting the controller on takes less than 10 sec everytime to connect with retropie.

@icvaalmall84 Hi. thank you for your reply!
Did you use the dongle - or do you connect via Bluetooth? I lost my dongle...so thats not gonna work for me.
If I can get it to work via bluetooth that would be great!
Please let me know.
