I didn't understand all the options and it takes 8 hours to scrape all the megadrive roms not to mention my bandwidth usage. Is there a way to re-scrape, but only rename all the roms as they appear in emulation station? Is that what the rom name options does? Change how the names appear in ES? I don't need to download all the images and videos again. Right now, I have 2, 3, 4 or more roms with the exact same name with no description. I had scraped with "thegamesdb" listed for rom name. Am I correct that "no-intro" would have given me "Batman (Europe)", "Batman (Japan)", etc. instead of just multiple Batmans and I have to figure out by launching them which is which? I also don't want any ++ or [!] garbage in the name.

@flightrisk If you used Steven Selph's Scraper from the retropie_setup.sh script, just delete or rename the file gamelist.xml for the system in question to remove all metadata (names, descriptions), then re-scrape. Selph's scraper doesn't re-download images that are already present.

I don't know how it is with Emulation Station's build-in scaper, because I don't use it.

If I select "no-intro" for "rom name" in the setup for the scraper, will it change "rom, rom, rom" to "rom (USA), rom(japan), rom(world)", etc?

@flightrisk It should, as I'm using no-intro and it does.

@flightrisk One addendum about your question regarding ++ or [!]: I filter my console roms with RomCenter and the official no-intro P/Clone XML file to have only one original version of a game, so I don't know how games with trainers or otherwise modified roms would be scraped.

Thank you. I have it all working. Now I need to take what may be an eternity and remove all the duplicates and just keep one version of a rom, like the USA version, and get rid of the chaff like mahjoong games, etc. Also, what I am learning quickly, is that there are hundreds, if no thousands of variations on the same 3 types of games, the side or vertical scrolling shooter with some sort of aircraft (like 1942) and the side scrolling shooter with a person doing the shooting like "Contra". Do we really need so many? Is there a list of like the top 5 in each category? lol

@flightrisk Which systems are we speaking of?

For consoles I'm using RomCenter with the respective no-intro P/Clone XML dat file to filter out any clones. RomCenter is only available for Windows, but it runs on WINE with only minor glitches. For only one ROM per game, you should look for a setting called 1G1R (1 game 1 rom) in its configuration.

For Arcade/MAME there's an article about Validating, Rebuilding, and Filtering Arcade ROMs in the docs.

Thank you. I am trying to filter a set of roms for NEOGEO. I wanted .42 roms, but couldn't find the. I think I have .39, but not sure how to tell. I put them in clrmamepro64 and can see I am missing a couple of "sets" (which are the files inside a game rom?) and some roms (which appear to be files inside the set. 2 of the roms are missing 1 or 2 files out of several. So I am guessing they are files that changed. And I am missing a couple of sets, which I believe are roms that were ported after the .39 roms. So I have to figure out how to find those.

@flightrisk Alas, I can't help you with that. Good luck.

edit: For manual removal of unwanted roms (among many more features), you could check out WebtroPie.
