Pi3B+ latest retroarch and newly updated psx core and everything. Wondering if anyone got Ganbare Goemon - Ooedo Daikaiten running? Everything else seems to work everywhere from good to excellent but this game just black screens on me no matter what. What are my options of trubleshooting this?

I've messed with just about every setting I could I think including drivers, when resetting the game it boots up the usual PS intro and then the PS logo freezes in a glitchy way to the right somehow. Is it just an incompatible game? It works fine on my real console so I know it's not the dump, I've also tried ISO and PBP versions. Appreciate it.

Did you try both lr-pcsx-rearmed and pcsx-rearmed? I had one ps1 game not working in the libretro emulator, but it did work in pcsx-rearmed so you could try that..

Also are you using the emulated bios or do you have an actual ps1 bios in the bios folder?

Yep, downloaded and tried the non lr version today, got the actual bios as well which works with all the other games, thanks for the reply. I'm guessing that it's a pretty obscure game being part of the reason, if it fired up it should run well I think considering it's a "2D sprite" based game ( "2D sprite" because of how the ps1 handles 2D )

@riggles I tried the game, but didn't work for me neither, regardless of which bios I tried.

Might also be some kind of anti mod protection. I couldn't get card captor sakura tetris to boot until someone posted a cheat to bypass the antimod. Too bad the better psx emulator isn't on the pi.

@darksavior Thanks, I think this might be it, because it freezes right at the playstation logo, I tried finding info in english on it but can't, any suggestions on how I could try find any info on this?
