I have a NEO GEO Pocket Color game that I placed in the ngpc roms folder. When I start Retropie I don't see a choice to select any NEO GEO Pocket games. The game has a .7z extension (not sure if that matters or not). I am running RetroPie version 4.3.12. Any ideas why I can't see my NEO GEO Pocket Color game?

Extract it and try again. If it works, you have your answer

          Mine are all .zip.

In the es_systems.cfg it is looking for .ngp, .zip, .NGP, .ZIP.

If you add .7z as an extension in the es_systems.cfg file it may work. But maybe just uncompressed them. They’re small.

EDIT: got beat to the punch. At least it’s the man himself... :-)

@herb_fargus Thank you! I extracted the game and it worked. I guess I got confused by the Wiki page where it says that the .7z files were an acceptable extension.

@kasimar1 not sure who added that... Annoying. It may technically work but I haven't tested it, I usually extract my roms

user @Eckaji added it according to the history. if the emulator can support it, then the installation script needs to be updated to include .7z in the valid extensions: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/blob/master/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-beetle-ngp.sh - the wiki change shouldn't really have been done until that's done :)

@dankcushions when I get my new pi I'll try and give it a test. I'm always wary of zips as I feel like even if some work it adds one more moving part of extraction that potentially can cause issues. I go by when in doubt, extract: except Mame.

@dankcushions Yeah, I should've waited until after the issue was addressed back when I did that. Very much a newb to all this. However, I did test the 7z support and the platforms.cfg was updated a week later.

It seems that this user's problem was not updating RetroPie as the 7z extension was added on 2017-10-17.

@eckaji my apologies, you're totally right it should all function correctly with current retropie. i was mistakenly looking at the ngp installation script, which is purely documentation, so it doens't really matter that it doens't have .7z as a supported extension there (in fact i don't think many/any of the installation scripts have been updated in that regard). thanks for your work :)
