I am really wondering the performance under the new set.... its not a huge jump in power, but it might be enough to allow more Pi Emulations....

I have a stack of PS2 games that need an emulator as my PS2 died and PS3 doesnt support PS2 games

You'll need a PC based system for the PS2 emulator. I don't think that will work even on the PI4 :).

My Dual Shock 4 connects to bluetooth on the 3B+ but didn't on the 3B. That's a pretty nice perk.

Btw - the first Generation of PS3 do support PS2 Discs. I own one of the first ones released in Europe, the 60GB Fat.

But in the end...a Raspberry Pi will not be powerful enough to emulate a PS2. I doubt even the Raspberry Pi 4 will do.

I have fully updated everything through the RP menu via source, just to make sure I have the latest versions.

I did this in order to make sure I'm ready for my 3B+ that I'm expecting anytime now...

Did I waste my time and should go with a brand new 4.3.15 image instead?

Note that I already tried the 3B+ on a friend and he didn't mention anything about a clear setup, that's why I went through the update process in the first place...

Most likely yes. Support for the 3B+ is up to the Raspbian OS included. If you're running on Raspbian Jessie (as the official images have been so far), then you need to use the new RetroPie beta image, based on the Raspbian Stretch release, which is the only one supporting the new Pi 3B+.

@matchaman Yes, you unfortunately did waste your time upgrading your image on your current pi. You can't just take that sd card and swap it into the new 3B+. It just won't work that way.

Oh well... at least the new networking hardware will make transfering the files faster in order to recover my setup! :D

It's been mentioned here that upgrading to Stretch using this method will allow you're existing setup to work with the 3B+. I don't have one myself, so I can't confirm, but it may be worth a shot. Starting with a fresh image is still always recommended in these situations.

So you need that Stretch to make it work for now. I can't just grab my sd card with a retro pi with roms and just stick it into the new pi 3b+. I think ill wait until I see cases for the pi3+. Maybe I can grab it when it's on sale also since it's worth alot more here where I live.

Does anyone know how to return the controller set up to stock? For some reason my config file gets deleted with updates and after the first time updating it, my bluetooth controller stopped connecting. I figure restoring the file to stock would fix the issue? As it did with the config file?

@ulysses To clear the controller configs go to the Retropie menu then Retropie Config, choose manage core packages, then emulationstation.

Choose configuration and then remove controller configuration and confirm. Reboot the Pi and it will have a clean controller config and ask you to enter the key mapping for any detected controller.

HOWEVER, I've been having bluetooth connectivity issues on my 3B+ with RP 4.3.15 with 8bitdo products. Not sure what controller you're using, but this clearing the configs might not help. You may need to use a separate wired controller or keyboard to navigate the menu once you've cleared out your controller configs.

@ulysses can confirm similar issues. I need to do more testing though with my 3B+ to see if I can replicate things. I was hoping the 4.2 Bluetooth would be more stable

@herb_fargus I'm actually seeing this issue when I put my 4.3.15 build back into a Pi 3B as well. It acts like it pairs and registers, but I don't get a solid blue light and cannot map buttons in ES even though it says the controller is detected.

I have had no issues with my 8bitdo controllers on stretch. NES30 Pro and SFC30.

For issues please start a new topic providing full information of your set-up as it will be difficult to debug multiple issues in this thread. Also did you follow the 8bitdo guide ? Powering on / registering in the correct mode and installing udev rules etc.

@buzz 8BitDo, I'd start with..What firmware version are you on on each controller? I ordered my 2 at the same time and got one 4.0 and one 1.71 Flashed both to 4.10 now Bluetooth is stable.

Now that RetroPie 4.4 is out, I’m thinking of upgrading my bartop.

I have a Pi 3B+ to hand, and since it looks like I’ll need to pretty much do-over from scratch, I’m thinking to swap it in to replace the current 3B.

Can anyone who’s got it working comment on relative performance & temperature? i.e. is it worth it?

I appreciate that my WiFi is quicker for transferring and scraping. I appreciate that my DS4 controller pairs when it didn't before. Other than that, I hvan't noticed too much difference between the 3B and 3B+ outside of those things and maybe a little more stability in emulationstation.

As far as temperatures go, it's cooler. I have a fan powered on mine though, so I'm not one who checks temps or anything. Sorry.

I manage a RetroPie image for my brother and cousin as well, so the transfer speeds made it worth it for me. If you aren't tweaking it much at this point, I would say it isn't worth it.
