Switchig Pi's
-
If I have a Pi set up with Retropie and a bunch of roms. Its a regular Pi Zero. If I want to switch over to a Pi Zero W, can I just take the SD card out of the Zero and put it in the Zero W and be fine?
On a side note: Is there a reason why suppliers like Adafruit and Canakit limit Pi Zero orders to 1 per customer?

Cause they make their money on shipping/peripherals. If they sold the Pi's in bulk they wouldn't be able to make a profit. Also I think originally when it was released they put that limit on because lots of people wanted them and they didn't want resellers to buy up all the stock
But yeah you should just be able to switch the SD over and it should work. If you're going from a pi 3 to a pi 1 might not work as well...

A related question, would it be a good idea to run "rpi-update" after switching an SD card to a new Pi to ensure the firmware is up to date? -
@madmodder123 no. Rpi update isn't really recommended unless you know what you're doing/have a specific use case as it can cause bugs. If one wants to start with stretch they'll need to flash the latest beta then just update from the setup script/ normal raspbian packages
