RetroPie emulator controls with the X-arcade Tankstick

When using Retropie with the X-Arcade Tankstick, my controls do not stay consistent within each emulator. The controls work fine within Emulation Station's GUI however when I go into the majority of games, the controls are not the same as I set them to be in Main Menu of Emulation Station. Any guidance, advice, or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

X-Arcade Tankstick Controller
Emulation Station v2.7.5RP
RetroPie v4.4.1
