So I managed to solve this, but I'm not entirely sure how. I fixed the under-voltage issue with a better power supply. Entered a game and had the same issue. Remapped after exit, then decided to see if it would do it again with other emulators, and like magic, I could never get the issue to reproduce even after a reboot. So.... I have no idea. My guess is it was related to the undervoltage and the board wasn't getting enough power causing a small memory dump when exiting the emulator.

@nateo44 While the original poster here said it didn't work for them, the only way I was able to solve this issue is to update xpad from source individually, even after doing a full update of the entire system the usual way. From inside of EmulationStation, choose RetroPie, then: RetroPie Setup, Manage Packages, Manage Driver Packages, xpad, then Update (from source). I'd restart the entire system afterward. Once that's done, go back into EmulationStation, hit Start, choose Configure Input, and go through all the mapping again for each side of your X-Arcade Tankstick. Note that this is with the unit in Mode 4 on a newer Tri-Mode Tankstick unit. Worked for me; YMMV.

No idea if it's unique to a Pi 4, or what the deal is, but it was the only method I could find for getting LT and RT buttons to work properly.

@Dana77 said in Rpi 4 with Retro Pi 4.6 Driver issue:

      \configs\all\retroarch-joypads
      \configs\all\retroarch\autoconfig

This is the RetroArch auto-configuration folder, they're both pointing to the same location (one is a symlink of the other). EmulationStation doesn't store its input configuration file here.

Now with Retro Pi 4.6 it stores the input data here:
      \configs\all\emulationstation

This is where the EmulationStation stores the configuration. If you don't have anything in the former location, it means that RetroArch's cofiguration is not generated after you configure the joystick.

Now there is NOTHING in the prior 2 folders. Like you said, mine prior was recognized prior as 2 controllers:
      Xarcade-to-Gamepad Device 1
      Xarcade-to-Gamepad Device 2

If the gamepads are named the same, then you need to configure only one of them, the other will be mapped identically, because the configuration file is the same.

What model are you using and what 'mode' of operation did you use before the upgrade ? Did you have to install any driver on the Pi to make it work ?

The PS4 DS controllers show as 2 devices - one for the touchpad and one for the actual gamepad, that's why you have 6 listed. There are some hints on how to disable this in this topic.
Also, please add the info detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first when opening a support topic, it's easier to diagnose things.

I did install that and it worked when there is one dual tank stick in there. When there is two dual tanksticks connected, the 2nd one that is connected behaves as a keyboard and not as a controller. that is why i want the second one to work like a keyboard that's acting like a controller if that makes sense

With that new angle it looks like they only split the button from the player 1 control panel to the side button for pinball.

So that shouldn’t cause any problems. Hope you get it sorted out.

Did you get it working? I've been trying to do the same thing, but can't seem to make it work. Right now player1_start begins Ms. PacMan for 1 player and player2_start begins Galaga for 2 players. I've tried going into the FBA menu to change the controls but when I cycle through the buttons, the only available start button is "Start (left)", which both player1_start and player2_start are bound to. Any help would be awesome!

Righto - I've gone ahead with a work-around solution. I mapped ESC to both "enable hotkey" and "exit retroarch" so that a single button-press will do both. I don't need the hotkey to do coin-drop, so it's win-win.

Guess I ought to solder some buttons on for those coin drops as well as TAB, huh? Anyhow, case closed!

      @mikikiki

Is there a way to map a controller as JS0? I've seen a package useful to decide the order of the controllers, but in Retroarch...

There are ways to force an assignment of js0, but unfortunately Daphne actually reads the joystick event order when grabbing control and the event order cannot be changed.

is there a way to use different joystick numbers with Daphne?

Currently there is not. It's an often requested feature, but development on Daphne seems to have slowed down over the years and the project leader has only ever shown a passing interest in the issue to begin with.

Probably using x-arcade as a keyboard (without xarcade2jstick) I could map the keys in daphne

If using Daphne is important to you, this is likely to be your best option. I know it'll be a pain to reassign all the controls, but some control setups don't even have this ability as an option, so you're still coming out ahead in the long run.

I think some of the emulators support per rom configurations but not sure about all of them.

@zmanz You are on the right track with all/retroarch.cfg. That's the starting place to look for keymaps for libretro emulators. In addition, you could look at configs that might also have key mapping in them according to the emulator. So, mame-libretro/retroarch.cfg would be next, assuming you placed roms in the corresponding folder. arcade/retroarch.cfg if you are using the arcade folder. You get the idea.

However, this brings up a less common issue when using a keyboard controller. . . mame2003 and possibly other lr emulators accept inputs via the "virtual" retropad controllers, but it ALSO SIMULTANEOUSLY accepts raw keyboard inputs. That's why you see both a key and a retropad referenced in the MAME GUI (in game menu brought up with <TAB>) when you are remapping in there. In other words, it's possible to have the retropad mapped in the retroarch.cfg file and have that be in direct conflict with the actual raw keypress that is setup inside MAME2003.

You could go into the MAME GUI and try to remap keys, but the layers of controls and remapping can get pretty confusing!

Here's a post from a while back where some of these details are described. It might be worth a read.
