Classic Game Boy-styled Freeplay Zero...
-
Hi everyone,
just wanted to share my build here. Recently i built my Freeplay Zero kit. A PCB developed by Freeplay Tech which fits in a Game Boy Advance shell (with a little bit of modification here and there). A Raspberry Pi Zero W is connected to the PCB with a soldered GPIO 40-pin header. You get the option to use the "X" and "Y" button on the PCB, which in my case i did. Of course it runs RetroPie.
The biggest challenge was customizing the shell, buttons and the screen lens to reminisce the aesthetics of the DMG-01 Game Boy. But it turned out pretty good i'd say.
I also made a build video on YouTube, check it out!

Awesome! I love these home projects and this one is no exception - in fact, it is an exception, because it looks so great! Good work on this, my congrats.

This is the coolest thing I have ever seen and I have made an account just to give you mad props. AMAZING JOB!
You inspired me to actually buy a kit and create my own. The SNES (USA) was my first home console and has a very dear spot in my heart. I like you, created all my custom graphics in Illustrator for a "Super Nintendo Handheld". What I am struggling with is the sizing and what not for the screen sticker. Would it be possible for you to email me your .AI file for the screen? I'd like to use your template since it came out so perfect, but obviously modifying it for my logos and colorings. I would so greatly appreciate that if you could help out a fellow retro gamer :)

Hi! Thank you very much for the kind words. It's fantastic to see it inspires other people in creating their own customs!
I can mail you the template if you want, but i'll need your e-mail address of course. I created the logos in Illustrator, but i made the template in photoshop. So i'll mail you the PS file then...
