PSX Emulator - Several Questions concerning multi track etc...
-
Hello,
I have a question concerning several typ of ROMS for emulating PSX games on my Raspberry Pi 3 with retropie.
One bin-File and One Cue-file:
- Can i put both in one Folder (e.g. the game "Crash Bandicoot (Europe) (No EDC)" in Folder: /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/psx/Crash Bandicoot (Europe) (No EDC) )? And will the retropie Emulator recongnize it?
One ROM with several tracks like "Destruction Derby (Europe) (Track 01).bin" "Destruction Derby (Europe) (Track 02).bin"
2. How many cue-Files do I need if one ROM has several tracks?
3. Do I have to merge them to a pbp-File? Is it a must or just an option?
4. What would be the right way without compression? One Game, several CDs like Metal Gear Solid
5. On the one hand it is described, that each CD has its own line in the m3u.file But at the end there is a warning:
WARNING! M3U Playlist files won't load a game with multi-bin files, you need to pack all .bin files plus cue file, in a single .bin file plus a new cue file. This can be easly achieved with ISOBuster (free edition) with the following procedure:
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/I don't know how to deal with it? Do i have to merge them to one bin file?
Thanks for our answers

Yes, you can, but you'll an extra folder that you have to click into.
One ROM with several tracks like "Destruction Derby (Europe) (Track 01).bin" "Destruction Derby (Europe) (Track 02).bin"
2. How many cue-Files do I need if one ROM has several tracks?1 CD - 1 Cue. If 1 CD has several tracks, they should all be declared in a single .cue file.

It's just an option, it's not mandatory.

The .cue+.bin format is fine.
One Game, several CDs like Metal Gear Solid

https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/I'm not so sure about this one, since I don't play a lot of PS1 games, but I think it refers to the situation when a CD has multiple .bin tracks, you'll have to reduce it to 1 .cue + 1 .bin file since the m3u operates on CDs, not on tracks. Other that have more experience with this might chime in and explain if that's the case.

@mitu is correct that it needs a single bin file to work. I use the m3u method and you need to combine the multiple files into a single bin.
The two basic steps are:
-
Use a free program such as Daemon Tools to mount the mutli-track cue file as a virtual drive/DVD/CD.
-
Use another free iso program such as PowerIso to open the virtual drive and then convert it to a .bin image. Now you have a single bin file with a cue file.
It's less clutter and works with the m3u list and you can delete all of those multi tracks/bins.

OK, now I'm back for PSX games.
So, the thing with one cue file for one bin works. So when a CD-bin file has several bin files included, then every bin file has to be noted in the cue-file correct?
But now i'm sitting at metal gear solid with multi DISC. Is there a good manual for this?
Thx

If you're referring to multiple discs, yes, each single bin needs to be in the respective cue file and every cue needs to be listed in the m3u in order to have the one ES entry in the game list.
If you are referring to Trackx.bin files they must each be listed in the single disc cue file, but multi-tracks are not compatible with the m3u setup so you would need to be sure you converted them to a single cue/bin configuration.

If you're wanting the multiple discs to be combined into a single entry, you'll need to use that
m3u
method orpbp

It's actually an example in the Docs.

Thank you for the fast answers.
Now I understand. I didn't understand that the m3u-Option is a separate method to pbp.
OK. Then i can go back to work :-D
Thx
