Goodbye fbalpha, welcome fbneo

@WeirdH yes

And now I've messed stuff up, of course. Some games glitch out or don't start anymore after updating. Do I need updated roms too?
Rebuilding with clrmamepro and the dat-file from here didn't work. (Granted, I am still a bumbling fool with clrmamepro...)
-
best thing to do would be check your logs it should tell you about missing roms
-
@grant2258 Hm, my runcommand.log only says this:
Parameters: Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-fbneo/fbneo_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/arcade/retroarch.cfg "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/abcop.zip" --appendconfig /dev/shm/retroarch.cfg'|'"/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/abcop.zip.cfg" [CDROM] No sg devices found and sg kernel module is not loaded.
and my es_log.txt ends with
lvl2: Attempting to launch game... lvl2: /opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 _SYS_ arcade /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/abcop.zip lvl2: Creating window... lvl2: Created window successfully. lvl2: Checking available OpenGL extensions... lvl2: ARB_texture_non_power_of_two: MISSING
Are those CDROM and ARB_texture things my problem?
-
@WeirdH Did you enable verbose logging in the Runcommand menu?

That's the ES log, doesn't log anything emulator related. As @Clyde said, enable verbose logging in the Runcommand launch menu and then post the
/dev/shm/runcommand.log
file on pastebin.com.I'd also ask to create a new topic with this, since it's not related to the topic starter.

I did not.

Will do, thanks to you both for replying. New topic created in 'Help & Support', apologies for the thread pollution here.

You can't start a game with unmatching crcs in fbneo, i disallowed it last year (too many abuse), so yeah the romsets that won't start probably need to be updated.
Give more details on the games glitching out please (might be related to https://github.com/finalburnneo/FBNeo/issues/278 ? if so, it got fixed already). -
@barbudreadmon Thanks for replying. The problem has just been resolved, when I tried this suggestion by @grant2258. Everything is working fine again.

I always thought FBA2012 ran CPS3 better than FBNeo, I will try FBNeo again soon for the updates listed here.
The AOC monitor I use on my Pi3 B+ arcade cabinet has Freesync, is that able to be used with a Pi3 B+?

Better is different from faster, FBNeo's CPS3 emulation is superior to FBA2012 in every way apart from speed.
As far as i can tell, FBNeo is back to emulating cps3 at full speed on pi3b+ (at stock frequency), with the exception of sfiii2 with widescreen mode (this one still requires either a good OC or frameskip set to 1).@GreenHawk84 said in Goodbye fbalpha, welcome fbneo:

Afaik a compatible gpu is required, and i doubt a vc4 would fit this bill.

I tried SFIII-3rd Strike (EU) today after reinstalling FBNeo via Source. It does play smoother, but suffers from audio issues, especially notable when selecting the next fight.
-
@GreenHawk84 With what pi? I tested 3rd strike. Pi3b+ stock speeds. Retropie buster dev build. Fbn from source. It's not a solid 60fps but audio is fine most of the time. There's plenty of drops but normally doesn't go below 59fps. Doing a super is the real test for drops. Supers can give me ~58fps and I get scratchy audio when that happens. When overclocked, supers are ~59.3fps

Afaik, that's normal, the refresh rate is 59.59Hz, so while RA will render at 60Hz, it will still do frame duping to lower framerate to 59.59 (except if you got a setup with freesync/gsync). Furthermore RA's fps counter has always been inaccurate, afaik it's jumpy on every devices, even when you have the power to emulate the content at 10x speed. So having this fps counter going between 59.3 & 60 for cps3 games seems legit to me.

I use a Pi3B+ stock. Retroarch settings are also stock, nothing fancy. I try to run the vanilla hardware/performance settings just like a console out of the box. When I mounted the SD with Retropie I did nothing but configure controls and install roms, basic things.
-
@GreenHawk84 It doesn't seem normal, it could originate from hardware (overheating, bad psu, ...).

Ra doesnt dupe at all it just runs things faster including audio its runs at 60fps regardless unless you change the audio skew settings or are using freesync/gsync

No, you are wrong, my pi3+ run a game like rtype (55Hz) or tapper (30Hz) at exactly the same pace than my desktop (with freesync enabled), the only difference is the frame duping. Setting the refresh rate is working properly on pi3+.

@barbudreadmon I switched out a no-name PSU for the official Raspberry Pi PSU. I bought another 3B+ after it was suggested my original 3B+ was faulty. Same exact issues. I really don't think my setup is the issue.
