I'm really struggling to run some relatively obscure emulators via ADVMESS. I've tried BBC Micro and Emerson Arcadia, and while I can get them to show up in Emulation Station, display the ROMs list and boot the games (Arcadia ones boot into demo mode and appear to be running fine, BBC ones boot to the AcornOS screen), I can't then get any sort of input to work, whether it be controller or keyboard, and I have to unplug the Pi to get out.

This seems like it's probably me missing something obvious and generic somewhere along the line, anyone got any clues?

@SpudsMcToole Oh, if it helps - when I get the MESS copyright splash screens and it says "Type OK or move joystick left then right to confirm", the joystick is recognised and works but the keyboard doesn't. (The keyboard works fine with other emulators.)
