Emulationstation crash and reboot in previews
-
After so long , configure, transfer information and configuration from old image and configuration of bluetooth now is running everything. The only problem is in the old image it had rom previews, some with video, some pictures and in the new image when I enter, for example, talking about Amiga system and I move the gamepad to a game, without pressing any buttons, when the preview will appear the odroid XU 4 crash and reboots. Where can I see logs to crashes possibly in previews? What I did was just transfer roms, splash screens, videos, and so on... from old image to the new image in the corresponding directory and I didn’t touch configs. What could be happening? I revised the log es_log.txt and I don’t see any word with preview or something strange, just missing roms that is why I asked location for other log files or check where?
Note: I also saw for this file
/dev/shm/runcommand.log
and it doesn’t exist.

I detected that old image had these 4 subdirectories called “boxart”, “cartart”, “snap”, “wheel” inside amiga roms. If I rename them to something g different to avoid be recognized then I can navigate the list of games and play, of course not preview no nothing. What creates that directories or what is missing I did not copy from the old image?
-
@ray3d Those folders were created by a scraper to hold the artwork/videos for the ROMs in the gamelist.

Oh I see and why it crash when they are with the right name?
For the same reason as described here?
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/14568/video-snaps-crash-and-freeze-rpi3/2
Or I need to use that scraper and make all the systems again first deleting old folders or don’t delete and let it overwrite whatever it needs? I see the directories and the have a lot of pretty pictures. I don’t see trouble with them is just the emulationstation crash.
These directories are auto detected with just name like that or is needed to make a configuration somewhere that call them?
-
Or is there a log file that show why is crashing? the logo es_log.txt and runcommand.log doesn’t show anything. More easy in the log file I could find why.
-
I am also getting this issue. Here in this article, I have found some related information please go through it.

@ray3d The log file would be in
~/.emulationstation/es_log.txt
, but if whole OS crashes and reboots, then the file would not be written.Or I need to use that scraper and make all the systems again first deleting old folders or don’t delete and let it overwrite whatever it needs? I see the directories and the have a lot of pretty pictures. I don’t see trouble with them is just the emulationstation crash.
It's not necessary, as long as the gamelist file (
gamelist.xml
) will have the correct paths to images and videos. These directories are auto detected with just name like that or is needed to make a configuration somewhere that call them?
No, they're not auto-detected, they're referenced in the
gamelist.xml
file for the system.Do you have videos in thos folders ? If yes, can you try to play them using
vlc
oromxplayer
(does this even exist on an XU4) from the command line and see if they're not corrupted and they play fine ? -
@aaravryan Please add more info about your system, as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. It's advisable to also start a new topic if you're not using an Odroid XU4 as @ray3d is.

@mitu Is solved now if I changed the theme and worked everything. I just have in some psx games issues with te control but is minimal. Thank you for all. Now is time to play after the hard work of configuration almost 3 weeks wow!
