I'm fairly certain you can go in and manually edit the gamelist.xml file and add information to the config menu gamelist. Other than that I believe it is based on the theme and that is beyond my knowledge.

I believe the gamelist.xml file for the Retropie menu is located at: /etc/emulationstation/gamelists/retropie

        If you add:
        <rating> </rating>
        <releasedate> </releasedate>
        <developer> </developer>
        <publisher> </publisher>
        <genre> </genre>
        <players> </players>
to each entry below the <desc>whatever text</desc> field it might force emulationstation to display a blank space instead of 'unknown' (as your current gamelist.xml doesn't have the fields it wants to pull the information from.

If you go that route I would just make sure to backup the file before making any changes just in case.

Hi, If you use a different theme than it isn't as noticeable.
I recommend these but there are a lot of themes to try. The top three are barely noticeable and the last three are almost invisible.
              Omnija/metro
              lilbud/switch
              ruckage/snes-mini
              ...
              ...
              chicueloarcasde/Chicuelo
              lipebello/retrorama
              lipebello/spaceoddity

@Efriim Hi. Thanks for your reply. I solved my problem with creating a custom theme file and removing these variables for only configuration menu.

@ilkayefe Hi! I found your question here and I'd like to do exactly the same thing - I think!
I want the date / developer etc to show when, and only when, there's metadata for that information. I just want a blank space where it currently says "Unknown", as I think makes the design a little ugly to see UNKNOWN stamped in several places.

Could you possible share with me your xml, and where you had to edit it, to change this yourself? Thank you!
